Discussion: Ex-Con Blankenship Still In The Hunt As Brutal WV GOP Primary Barrels To Finish Line

Blankenship is speaking to the base through the same bullhorn that Trump showed speaks well to them.

Republicans who blow dogwhistles instead are being left in the dust.

Reap what you sow, and all that.

After a longish (and for me quite enjoyable) hiatus in communications from Butthead, it’s just too rich that he comes out swinging with misinformation. Hope the gullibles show up on the wrong day at the wrong polling stations…

Just can’t get much stupider than Junior, can you?

Is anyone else getting tired of all the constant popcorn eating? I didn’t even know popcorn fatigue was a thing until the Manchurian Cantaloupe took office (emphasis on “took”).

This is the sort of primary that is scaring the crap out of the GOP. Its Akin in MO but 1000x worse. And its not the only one they will be facing.

@inversion Its rather interesting that Junior is urging people not to vote for Blankenship. The man is clearly running on the Trump playbook…Full on racist shoutouts/businessman with criminal background. Also note that Blankenship doesn’t really attack Junior…“My son says things I wish he wouldn’t sometimes too”. He isn’t going to get into a back and forth with a Trump and risk pissing off the Trumpers, which are his primary targets.

I can see Manchin’s campaign posters now. With his Republican opponent in an orange jumpsuit.

Just a warning: In 2015, the joke candidate in Kentucky’s gubernatorial race was Matt Bevin, who had gone down in flames against Mitch McConnell in the repug primary in 2014. When Bevin won the 2015 repug primary by 27 votes, Kentucky dems cheered: No way this yankee carpetbagger was going to win the general against popular Attorney General Jack Conway.

Bevin won by 8 points, and has already ripped the Commonwealth’s economy to shreds.

I seriously doubt Manchin can beat Blankenship.

It would be nice to be able run real photos of the GOP candidate in prison garb during the campaign. On the other - more worrisome - hand, I suppose it’s possible that a small majority of WV voters could think serving time in jail is good qualification for federal office.

The primary is not close to being brutal enough.

How is it that mine safety is not a huge issue in West Virginia, given the importance of coal to the local economy? Last night I watched a piece on “Headliners” about Elizabeth Warren and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and a recap of Republican lawmakers ranting about the very idea of the thing. Voters who’d rather people lost their homes, or their lives, than see government regulating anything really mystify me.

Don Blankenship’s disrespect for the law… threatens to block our ability to advance conservative policies…

Disrespect for the law IS a conservative policy.

Trump’s tweet is so stupid. He urges people to vote either Jenkins or Morrisey [sic]. Thereby splitting the anti-Blankenship vote.

The Blankenship thing is causing the GOP to make mistakes. You have Trump/Junior arguing against Trumpism in supporting non-Blankenship candidates. Trump almost sounds establishment like these days with respect to the WV race. Manchin seems to be having fun with all of this, which is a good sign for Team Blue.

Even if Blankenship loses, I think it’s somewhat probable that the GOP isn’t able to unify its base for the G.E. candidate.

Imagine a Blankenship-Manchin debate:

Manchin: So Don, who are you going to vote for in November? Oops, sorry, I forgot you can’t vote.
