Discussion: Ex-ADL Head: Trump Hand-Raising Request Was 'Fascist Gesture'

So will Drumpf add the ADL to those who are Low-Engery Losers? Tune in for the next 48 hours and find out, as all the oxygen continues to be sucked out of the room by this useless asshole.

A bit of a stretch, isn’t it? This kind of thing just reduces the left’s credibility. We don’t need to make crap up to defeat this Bozo.

Plenty of raised hands…Like when I was in the Military. So the idea that “all raised hands are equal” doesn’t do it for me. Hell, NFL wide receivers who are OPEN raise their hands. Trump KNOWS he is offensive and he knows who he is offending.

I lived in Germany for 7 years as a kid. When the American kids fought the German kids (who were usually far more athletic and rugged than we were), there were names for that. I KNEW Wehrmacht ex-Military. One of them was my trumpet teacher.

Sociopaths like Trump like to go to the edge. It gets more publicity. It gets more $$$$$. It gets more idiots. A veteran hustler, he knows the ropes.

To be fair. I understand what you are saying. Most of us try to be true to our word, too. Commit=swear=oath=pledge

I don’t know if you are saying that people take commitments less seriously than other forms of promises . . .

I think many many Democrats underestimate the power of a smart hustler. I am sure the other side says the same thing about our guys/gals. Trump is in a small hustle-league of his own.

Sieg Heil Mein Fuhrer Trump.

Trump knows the imagery and knew what he was doing. Its not quite up to shooting somebody on 5th avenue but he did have that collection of Hitler speeches on his night table according to Ivana.

Trump’s strengths are in the cunning/conniving/hustling area. He has a gift/knack/talent (whatever you want to call it) for this. He has had more practice at this than most people on this Planet have been alive.

He is also an evil man.

I agree.

When I saw the video, I went: “Is Trump fuckin with these people?” There’s just NO WAY this stuff is accidental. I am still waiting for the Borat-style Trump movie to come out after this is all over.

If you look at it from that perspective (the comic pseudo-documentary), Trump’s entire campaign has been fuckin hilarious.

David Duke endorsements, telling supporters to “rough up” protesters, and now Nazi salutes? It’s like bad parody. But maybe if it’s spliced together with deadpan reaction shots, it can be a laugh riot.

Do you think maybe there’s going to be a Charlie Chaplin “The Great Dictator” style speech at the end of all this?

Next he will publish his new memoir, “Mein Drumpf.”

I made a commitment to my now ex-wife. I swear that I will never get back with her. Like that maybe?

Maybe he picked it up from the GOP requiring loyalty oaths to not run as an independent earlier this year.

I wonder why all those people were so willing to follow along.

Everyone should read Rick Perlstein’s analysis of how fascism actually works historically: getting the ‘little people’ to believe that some one will be their economic savior against the ‘economic elites.’ Even if that savior is himself part and parcel of those economic elites. http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/political-animal-a/2016_03/the_connection_between_nativis059843.php

Every fascist achieves and cements his power by
pledging to rescue ordinary people from the depredations of economic
elites. That’s how fascism works. >

[…] Under fascism, economic protection for the goose accompanies dispossession of the gander. White people prosper in part because minorities suffer—whether, under Hitler, by taking away property from Jews, or as Herr Trump expects, by taking back “our” jobs from “them,” whether the them is immigrants or our supposedly duplicitous trading partners.

I feel quite sure it was intentional. It’s part of his “I could get away with murder.” routine.

Drumpf: I have had great admiration for leadership skill of Hitler. My ancestors did come from Germany and I think I have some of his genes, probably a distant relative.

I looked at Josh’s piece to-day about the 25% of the country which is now committed to doing things that they cannot do in a representative government. I suggest people read it. You can tell you are reading it by the people shown at the top. Look and them and then say,

“Mission accomplished, MSM”.

No…FOX is not responsible for this. FOX is a propaganda organ. The Constitution does not prohibit the broadcast of propaganda. But the Constitution DOES mention the Press…And if the Press is concerned only with tittilation and profit, you get this. People work too hard these days to get the happenings and perspective (local, state, national and the world) THEMSELVES. They need JOURNALISM.

They need Walter Cronkite, not Chuck Todd.

I do not believe that Bernie can win the General like Hillary. I may be wrong…But, if Bernie could have won…IF Bernie could have had a Congress to work with and a SCOTUS to work with…MAYBE we could have started to get our Fourth Estate back.

The way he moves his mouth often reminds me of things Mussolini did.

Yes. I work for a judge. She still says “Will you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?” The “so help you God” part makes me cringe every time, but w/e.

I agree that this is a bit of a stretch, but you have to agree that the idea of “pledging yourself” to a candidate and to support him no matter what, is unbelievably authoritarian. Not a chance in hell I would do this for HRC or Bernie.

In a vacuum, this is nothing. But coupled with the David Duke stuff, and this story about a book of Hitler’s speeches (http://www.weeklystandard.com/vanity-fair-trump-kept-a-volume-of-hitlers-speeches-by-his-bedside/article/2001343), the fact that he fits every category of the fascist checklist, his economic and militaristic nationalism, his racist rhetoric, his comments about curbing freedom of speech and the press, the reports by local law enforcement that he directed them to remove black people from his rallies,…IDK.

When he’s President of the United States is he going to ask people to hold up their hands and pledge to him?

Just watch the movie “It Can’t Happen Here” to see an eerie parallel to Trump today.

Wikipedia: "In 1936 Senator Berzelius “Buzz” Windrip, a charismatic and power-hungry politician, wins the election as President of the United States on a populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness, and promising each citizen $5,000 a year. Portraying himself as a champion of traditional American values, Windrip easily defeats his opponents, Senator Walt Trowbridge and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Though having previously foreshadowed some authoritarian measures in order to reorganize the United States government, Windrip rapidly outlaws dissent, incarcerates political enemies in concentration camps, and trains and arms a paramilitary force called the Minute Men, who terrorize citizens and enforce the policies of Windrip and his “corporatist” regime. One of his first acts as president is to eliminate the influence of the United States Congress, . . "
