There are big conceptual differences between OTOH the government prosecution in a criminal case showing the defendants the mass of evidence that the government side has gathered which MIGHT be used as evidence at the trial, whetehr by the prosecution or the defense or both, and OTOther what pieces from that pile each party ends up actually choosing to use in the trial.

Take the video(please): 6,000 hours of continuous time is over 8 months. The Bundy bunch occupied Malheur for 40 days, around 1,000 hours of continuous time.

If this trial were really about some great human cause, or some closely-defined yet vital claim to liberty under the Constitution, the attorneys and the presiding judg might have some compelling incentives to exclude irrelevancies. Even so, I can envision a case like this, most irrelevancies removed and issues pretty much boiled down to their essence, still taking 3 months, easily. That’s just owing to the realities and rhythms of the criminal trial process: there’s a story to be told here, and it has to be told in relation to each defendant.

But forget all that: this case is highly politicized, and from all I know of the attorneys involved on the defense side, they aren’t remotely experts, specialists, experienced, particularly trained or notably skilled at criminal trials generally, leave aside large volume discovery data criminal cases.

Long trials with huge masses of data pose unique logistical and psychological challenges to everyone involved in them. When I look at the names and backgrounds of the attorneys involved on the defense side, I don’t see ANYTHING to support that they’re at all capable of handling those challenges - even if they were to treat this trial as if it’s about legitimate legal issues.

If, however, the defense side really is more interested in engaging in gonzo court process and treating the entire exercise as political theater, I can see the sense in have at least some of these defending attorneys on the case.

This trial is very likely to be a white supremacist putz faux Blood Meridian stew of stupid, and a total fiasco.

Nah. If the prosecution had twenty-seven 8×10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence against them, THEN they’d be fucked. :wink:

Mumford continued, “I had no idea my client’s illegal activities and assholery were this extensively documented. I may move to have all the evidence barred at trial, since it’s all clearly prejudicial, in a fact-based manner, to my client.”

The Bundies are just the sideshow. The main event is the Koch-funded movement to divest the US of federal public lands (BLM, NFS in particular). Here’s a rundown on the land-theft movement by state - and these initiatives are NOT supported by the majority of the citizens of any of the states:

Several state land-theft bills have been voted down, but they keep returning like zombies. Federal public lands are our legacy as US citizens and our loss would be enormous and irreversible.

Well, it’s not that that’s not going to happen. Exhibits A, B, C, and rest the case.

However, the defense does get to see everything that is in evidence, whether or not it’s presented at trial, in case there is anything in there that might help their case.
