Sounds like a classic downburst. Did the tower have the radar necessary to detect those, or are they still at the stage of the US in the 70s and 80s, when aircraft regularly got slammed into the ground by wind?
Yes, good on the pilot. And let’s not forget the first responders on the ground who risked their lives to get the injured out of a burning aircraft.

Oh, yes, absolutely, everyone involved. According to the article, the pilot has been the most badly injured of all, so I am hoping he comes out of it well.
