Discussion: Evers Will Personally Appeal To Walker To Veto Legislation Robbing Him Of Power

Sorry Tony… you are appealing to the wrong person… it’s the Kochs who run the state and have supported Walker for years… he has no choice but to do what his masters tell him to do.

Rep. Todd Novak of Dodgeville, the only Republican in the Assembly to vote against the bills, said he did so after hearing from “an overwhelming number of voters” in his district who opposed the legislation.

“It is my job,” Novak said, “to cast my vote in the interest of those whom I represent.”

Call me dubious because I suspect if his vote was needed to pass the legislation, he would not have been allowed to vote against it. If he actually voted in the interests of those he represents, he wouldn’t be a Republican. We all know who Republicans in Wisconsin really represent.

Correct, although when Walker says FU, Evers should be sure to be recording the event and make it available to the public within moments. Better even doing it live. Exposure of this type is the only disinfectant the public has, remaining silent is condoning the thievery and disenfranchisement of the will of the people.

Challenge it in court. WI Dems will get injunctions on a good portion of these measures. I’d like to see how the language was phrased but if they did things like ‘The AG may not withdraw from lawsuit X’ that would likely not be valid. For one, it probably conflicts with the general powers and authorities of the AG to make judgments in his/her professional discretion. It’s an encroachment into the powers of the AG and a violation of separation of powers. In addition, typically a legislature can say ‘x is valid or acceptable’ but it can’t say that ‘y and z can never be chosen’ unless they can demonstrate an overarching public interest. Gov’t’s can’t ban things they don’t like without showing some overarching public purpose (e.g., health/safety). A similar logic would apply to Evers’ discretion to use different forms of ID to satisfy the Voter ID law. In fact, a court could take bad legislation like this and use the opportunity to expand upon and clarify the limits of power of one branch of gov’t over the other. It might not end up being what the GOP intended.

“Evers Will Personally Appeal To Walker To Veto Legislation Robbing Him Of Power”

My God, that’s stupid. I’m basically a Dem but it is really hard to do sometimes.

Ten years ago, we got to watch a shiny new President named Obama pledge to unite the country by addressing ideas from both sides of the aisle. At the same time, Republicans met to unite behind a plan to sabotage EVERYTHING President Obama tried to do - REGARDLESS OF MERIT.

Republicans are trash. Walker is ALREADY laughing about spitting in your face Gov. Evers - LEARN THE LESSON. You have to beat these bastards with a blunt instrument.

While I agree that this appeal will fall of deaf ears, I think it is a good move. Let Walker publicly ignore him for all to see, then go go to the courts or whatever else that needs to be done.

Evers doesn’t have enough money to offer a bribe big enough to satisfy Walker.
He has to do it the way Washington works, kompromat.

Shine the bright light on the activity, but don’t expect anything to come of it. Give it your best shot.

True, but how many of the Wisconsin judges are in the Koch pockets? I don’t know the answer to that, despite being a resident of WI. How much stacking of the courts has taken place in the last eight years to prevent exactly this type of activity from having any impact?

Unfortunately for Evers, Walker agrees that he had too much power, and will sign the legislation.

Yeah, always works to ask corrupt fascist scumbags nicely. > Evers, how about this: Loudly and impolitely declare your intent to devote the next four years of your life to organizing ‘democratically’ The People who voted plus some. The goal being to stomp the Wisconsin Republican party into dust. > Milquetoast messaging is not gonna cut it. These anti-American f-kers hate democracy and are not going to go with it until it is stuffed down their slimy throats.

Walker is a nasty little sh—. Not gonna do it.

Does Walker plan to run for anything ever again? If so, he should think hard before signing this.

Nope. Because the legislature will gladly undo all of this should a Republican become governor again. It’s how we ended up here in the first place.

Yes. If a challenge is not already in progress, it should be.

But this is important as well:

Could not agree more.

Too late for Walker. Every photo of the guy looks like he’s just been clubbed upside the hayd with a 2x4.

If Republicans don’t have veto-proof majorities in both chambers, Evers should consider saying he’ll veto every single bill passed until the Republicans undo this legislation.

Maybe that’s the argument Evers will use. Walker is young and probably thinks he could still become a GOP star in the future. Self-preservation would certainly be the only motive that would appeal to Scotty.

While it may be futile, I think he should do this anyway. Let the Goopers show the world how craven and beholden they are to special interests and “dark money.” They will not be in power forever.
