If only elections came down to who was more intelligent and well-prepared at debates.
As Adlai Stevenson said, when told that all thinking people would be voting for him, “That’s not enough. I need a majority.”
I’m flattered that you think “GenX” refers to “young voters”. But we’re hitting our 50s now.
Yep, there 'ya go, the charisma factor, including sex appeal. It’s completely unfair that sex appeal is something male candidates can leverage more than women in a political contest, for obvious reasons. But it’s an inevitable part of the game.
Speaking of sex appeal, it’s interesting to think about how much of Buttigieg’s popularity might be due to women being attracted to him, regardless of his sexual orientation.
I agree about Bernie, but not Biden. He knows how it works in and out of the White House. Biden running with a strong progressive Dem like Harris would be a formidable ticket. I sorry you don’t seem to get that folks want experience and normalcy. Biden has the experience and represents normalcy.
More power to you. I for one am ready for you guys to take over the reins. So I can enjoy what’s left of my retirement.
I think you’re completely wrong. School marms like Warren won’t get a second look from some male voters and/or will trigger their “uggg, what a snooty bitch” reaction like many of them have to Clinton, but someone like Gillibrand or Gabbard or Palin will get their attention, along with a pass for all sorts of shit.
Yeah, that was another thing Obama had - sex appeal. It’s an added factor but it brings out voters. Swear to god.
No offense, but I only support true Dems. Our candidate can not appeal just to far left folks. That is the McGovern connection.
Beto finally made a move to get some policy attention with a climate change package:
Excerpts:
On his first day in office, he says, he would reverse all of Trump’s climate orders, rejoin the Paris Agreement, and order the Environmental Protection Agency to restrict air pollution from power plants and car tailpipes again. (This would make carbon pollution more expensive.) He also promise a new $200-billion R&D program to study new zero-carbon energy and industry. (This would seek to make clean energy cheap.) And he would ask Congress to cut tax breaks for oil companies, using the resulting $1.5 trillion to fund new climate-friendly infrastructure.
Most significantly, O’Rourke says he would ask Congress to pass a “legally enforceable standard” that would force the United States to zero out its carbon emissions by 2050. What is this “standard”? Though the proposal’s language is cleverly vague, he seems to be describing some kind of carbon tax—his exact language is “a clear price signal to the market”—that scales up as the midcentury deadline approaches.
Who are you saying Warren will take out at his knees? Bernie or Biden. I think she’ll wipe them both away. Biden because of his corporate connections, his problem with women, and his tendency to mansplain; Bernie because of his total lack of substance and his problem with women that makes Biden seem like a feminist.
Fantastic. He had me at “reverse”.
Biden is the Democratic Party’s choice. They’ve avoided appearing to anoint him the way they did Hillary, but he’s their guy. One good reason is a lot of republican pundits like Biden. Democrats love that.
So did Walter Mondale.
[quote=“downriverdem, post:49, topic:87383”] I only support true Dems.

I know a true Scotsman who wants to have a word with you.
You need to realize that folks want to win. They want Biden. Throwing out Mondale is silly.
