Discussion: Even Interns Are Forced To Sign NDAs In Trump's White House

Yep, mentioned here (live thread waiting for the Stone court appearance).

This is easy, just write in swirly cursive, “I don’t agree to this NDA”. There’s no way these dipshites are checking the signatures.

The end of this anti-democracy crap can’t come soon enough.

Still another means by which to be The Most Transparent Administration Ever.

Can’t wait for courts to overturn this.

Me, too. The Cohn/Trump method is not to use the law, but to use the threat of using the law. They know the agreements can’t be enforced, it is the chill they cause that matters.

These folks applying for internships must be fucking desperate to prostrate themselves like this. Jeezus, where’s the fuckin’ dignity, people? Apply to med school, get into a STEM program!

Much like the robocalls I get where a Stephen Hawking voice tells me that the IRS is going to file charges against me unless I call and give them all my personal information.

OT (maybe): It’s interesting how apparent Drumpf’s bald spot is in this photo. So the hair “do” is Non-Disclosure of Alopecia.

My understanding of NDAs is practically nil, but I thought the reasoning behind them was to protect the methods, intellectual property rights, and customer lists of a business? So in the WH who is discussing intelligence briefings (which Trump doesn’t attend) or other matters of national security in front of interns?

That one’s been going on for quite awhile and the IRS doesn’t seem to be able to shut it down. Lots of people have fallen for it, even though they tell them they’ll take gift cards. Had it happen several times while living in AZ but have heard it’s all over.

You get those too? hahahahahaha They are so fucking stupid. If that scam works I don’t want to know it because that would mean there are people stupid enough to fall for it and they use terrible English in the recordings. It’s fucking funny.

It does work, I remember reading about it online and suggestions from IRS about not responding to them. It is really pretty unbelievable that people would fall for it, but they do.

Yep … nobody is ’ forcing ’ them to sign …
they’re doing it because they want to ----

It is a shame he never won the Nobel Prize! Those 8 million Swedish kronors would have made a part-time career recording scam robocalls unnecessary.

The White House counsel’s office is telling interns to sign these ndas? WTF. Where did they go to law school?

Don’t answer. I’m pretty sure it’s Liberty or Regent.

You’re right about how NDAs are usually used in business. They have no place in government and are unenforceable. And as has been pointed out - Trump uses threats of lawsuits to try to keep people in line and I wish someone would call his bluff on this.

“It is unclear whether the intern NDAs — or others he’s required throughout his career — are legally enforceable.”

Wouldn't the White House Counsel be responsible for passing judgment on the legality of any document the Executive insists an employee or applicant sign? They'd certainly intervene if someone slid under an applicant's nose a form saying they had to give Trump their first born to get the job. Either it's legal, or not, and why the hell hasn't it been ruled on?

My favorite is, “the cops will be called and you’ll be placed in arrest.” Sure sounds like the real IRS to me! I’d better call them back, pronto!!
