Discussion: Even If Trump Changes On Immigration, The Damage To The GOP Is Done

Alfonso Aguilar, a Republican strategist who worked in George W. Bush’s administration and leads a group that encourages Latinos to back conservative candidates, has been torn this election over Trump and was among the first to admonish him.

But he does plan to vote for him.

This mentality will do far more long-term damage to the GOP than HO’s potential flip-flop on immigration. Putting party before country is never a winning proposition for the long haul.

“What I said was that I was worried that we would do to the Latino vote what was done to the African-American vote by defining our party in such a way that we could not reach out to what has become the nation’s largest minority group,” McConnell said. “I am worried about that.”

interesting… by taking such a narrow view of the problem McTurtle fails myopically… his own minority group…

old white guys IS a defining group identity that Pinhead Mitch fails to see as another problem… instead of a group he can grow it’s a group that’s rapidly dwindling…

If only the immigrants were not taking all the jobs in Coal Country and Youngstown OH this would not be a problem.

Oh wait…

“I am going to support him and vote for him, but I am not going to defend his comments that have certainly done damage with Latinos,” Aguilar said. "Republicans are going to realize they cannot win the White House if they continue to alienate Latino voters. How many elections will we have to lose to learn that lesson?

All of them – forever. Cf. the “Southern Strategy” and the black vote. Now admittedly, losing the black vote by about 90% hasn’t stopped the Republican Party from winning elections, but when you add the black vote and the Latino vote you’re reaching a deficit that is almost impossible to overcome if the remainder breaks more or less evenly. They can’t afford to lose 90% of the black vote and 90% of the Latino vote, especially when their rhetoric motivates the blacks and Latinos to get out and vote against them.

I have to think this shift in rhetoric is prompted by a desperate calculation that for every racist xenophobic vote they lose, they’ll get back two disaffected GOP voters, or some such stupidity. Conway probably behind this. What a god awful mess of things they’re making. Amateurs and idiots every one of them. Don’t even want to think about the damage they could do if given real power.

The only pivot in this campaign is Kellyanne Conway constantly turning to pick up another steaming load with the pooper scooper.

Whenever I see “Trump pivot” the only thing that comes to mind is “Trump blivot”.

Why would anybody believe a word Drumpf has to say, particularly Hispanics on immigration, or Muslims on religious freedom, or Blacks on race relations, or women on anything?

Yes, that really worked out so well for those Communists in the Soviet Union who always put The Party above everything else.

More proof that the Republican Party has become the exact same entity as the Soviet Communist Party.

I have to congratulate Trump on doing to the Republican Party nationwide what Pete Wilson did to it in California.

Thanks to Pete Wilson, The California Republican Party is dead when it comes to statewide races. And Trump is guaranteeing that Dumbya’s prediction about being the last Republican President is becoming a reality!

What a sad legacy for the GOP to have Shrub as their last POTUS ever. Pretty frickin’ embarrassing, if you ask me…

rePuketards broke it and they so own it. PERIOD. California Prop 187 redux. Bye Bye rePuketards. Only relevant question is what’s their color? As in what color are the drapes when you are relegated to the dust bin of history.

The damage had already been done when the now-sanctimonious Mitt Romney talked about “self-deportation,” and sucked up to the racist Trump for his endorsement in 2012.
They’re getting what they deserve.

Democrats will need power for about 100 years, to reverse all the lingering effects of Republican policy choices which hold people back. As Latino voters approach income and wealth parity with white voters, their grandkids and great grandkids will gradually begin to grow up like the Bush, Romney and Rump children: spoiled, grotesquely entitled and comically unaware where their inheritances really came from. Then Latino voters will come to support Republicans as often as white voters.

The thing is, a large proportion of Trump’s most avid fans love him for threatening to do nasty shit to “those people.” If he backs off that, how many rabid supporters will stay with him instead of staying home on election day?

The Republican Party is getting what it deserves after they trashed civility and let the red ink run like the dam is broke.

The Republican Party deserves to go to hell!
