I also saw reference to a Reuters article claiming that Syria just launched planes from the same airfield that we bombed - i.e. we weren’t very effective in disabling their capabilities and Trump’s attack was just a media ploy to gain some public support. Haven’t seen this confirmed anywhere . . . .

It’s not that simple. Russia brokered the agreement but the elimination of the chemical weapons was overseen by the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and largely carried out by the Syrian military and, eventually, by the US, Great Britain and Finland.
