Discussion: Eric Cantor's Raise Is Paid For By Low-Wage Workers

Discussion for article #227207

Cantor is the model boy for corruption in politics.

In 2015, Cantor will receive a minimum incentive payment of $1.2 million in cash and $400,000 in restricted stock…

Since Cantor’s value degrades over time, the big ask, whatever it is that Moelis, or more specifically, its client, needs to be paid for up front. What does Cantor’s access buy that is so pressing at the moment? It appears that the “incentive payment” could even be higher if he delivers. Since Moelis is involved in restructuring and M&A deals, you have to wonder what the next big thing is that somebody would want Cantor’s help on.

Two words: Banking reform… or, to add a word and be precise, kneecapping banking reform.

Aah. Wingnut welfare. I wouldn’t give him his breakfast for everything he could accomplish all day, but thanks to the great and powerful free market god…

“…How nice that they’re going to take a chance on a guy with no experience in the industry, and start him off at a decent living wage…”

Beautifully stated.

My daughter, who is 25, is in a low paying job, not fast food, but retail. They work hard to make sure she stays just below 30 hours a week. Wouldn’t want to have to pay for health care. What is really bad are her hours. Their scheduling is utterly unreliable. Wouldn’t want her to have a chance to pick up some additional hours elsewhere or spend time with her son, who is being raised on weekends mostly by his grandparents because her significant other (a college graduate) has a night job as a handy man that doesn’t pay much more than minimum wage. Both work weekends.

I know it sucks being young, but people are getting stuck in sucky jobs longer and longer.

I sure hope Eric and his family enjoy his conservative welfare starter job.

Eric Cantor? this sends a clear message to the existing corporatists in congress that heir payday will come as long as they play ball. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Mitrch McConnell, John Boehner, Suzie Collins, Angus King, and the rest of the Corporatist Party are already counting their future payoff that’s waiting in the wings!

What is the banking industry - not just the guys at the top, but including tellers, branch managers, janitors, etc- average hourly wage?

Employment in industry
527,680 persons
Mean hourly wage
$12.62
Mean annual wage
$26,260

Folks better unite and put an end to this.

To all of thi Eric Cantor just grins and says -

“Ha! Ha! … I’m getting $3.4 million (and so much more!)… I simply could not care less about what people think - never did - it was always all about the big payoff!”

My girlfriend’s 16 year old just started at Sonic and they straight out told her that she was only going to get to the 30 hour mark and nothing more. She had no clue why, so I told her. It really confused her because her Dad is a right-wing loon that is making money hand over iron fist but swears to her and everyone that Obama and the Democrats are breaking the nation.
She is becoming a liberal before my eyes and it’s for all the right reasons. Her Mom, my GF, believes in all the liberal policies but still votes (R), it’ so frustrating.

“Today, decades after the National Labor Relations Act became law, Republicans don’t accept its basic legitimacy—and do everything they can to undermine the NLRB.”

Don’t feel picked on the Republicans do that with every law they don’t like but accuse the President of not enforcing the laws. Project much?

Ask your mom why she thinks you should not get social security since the Republicans want to do away with it? And why she wants you to have to use vouchers for Medicare? She down with what Ryan and the Republicans will do if they can? Is she ok with no regulations for clean air and water?

Mr. Michaels’ headline assertion is pretty silly. Even if the minimum wage were let’s say doubled and the gap was less, do you think Moelis was going to pay anything less to Mr. Cantor? He would have received the same huge pay package no matter what low wage workers earn.
