Discussion: EPA: Rollback Of Obama Climate Change Rule 'Promotes Energy Independence'

ā€œPollution and accelerating global warming are good if it means GOP donors can make a few more bucks.ā€

Itā€™s a smash and grab, folks, by the corrupt owners of the Trump GOP.

Just wait until some state decides to regulate more seriously and weā€™ll see how much discretion there is.

No, it promotes premature deaths and short-term profit at the expense of the commons and the public trust. Hangingā€™s too good for these anti-life, planet-killing wankers.

The move targets a major climate change effort of the Obama administration,

If Obama did it, then Trump wants to undo it.

Zero argument.

From the CNN article.

ā€œdevolve regulation of coal-fired power plants back to the states, one that is expected to give a boost to the coal industry and increase carbon emissions nationwide.ā€

Seemingly pollution stops at state and national borders. Note I have been following several events over this summer that tells us dotted lines on a map do not get much respect.

  1. African dust was intense again. Not much anyone can do about it, but it illustrates how one problem can travel vast distances to make a problem elsewhere. (Central Texas)

  2. Agricultural fires from South America, Central America and Mexico were particularly bad again this year. It affected quite a few states this time.

  3. The California Fires have generated issues as far as the east coast.

According to the New York Times these rule changes and de evolution to the states will cause 1400 premature deaths per year. So thatā€™s the half of the death toll from 9/11 per year. Trump administration more deadly to Americans than AlQueda, ISIS and illegal immigrants combined.

And what happens under the ā€œstates rightsā€ doctrine if CA or NY decide to tax kilowatts from coal fired power plants?

Would the EPA and the GOP jump in and say you can not do that?

GOP = Party of Pollution and Death.

Yes, just came to post this from the NYT article.

The analysis also includes a section called ā€œforegoneā€ climate and human health benefits. That is, instead of listing the health gains of the Trump plan ā€” preventing premature deaths, for example, or avoiding a certain number of increased emergency room visits from asthma attacks ā€” it is instead describing the effect of the Trump plan as benefits lost.

The proposal lays out several possible pathways that individual states might use for regulating coal-fired power plants, and what the consequences would be for pollution and human health in each case. In the scenario the E.P.A. has pegged as the most likely to occur, the health effects would be significant.

In that scenario, the Trump E.P.A. predicts its plan will see between 470 and 1,400 premature deaths annually by 2030 because of increased rates of microscopic airborne particulates known as PM 2.5, which are dangerous because of their link to heart and lung disease as well as their ability to trigger chronic problems like asthma and bronchitis.

Pesky regulations get in the way of freedumb.

An EPA statement calls the Obama plan ā€œburdensome.ā€

You want to see ā€œburdensomeā€? Visit Beijing on a bad day. Itā€™s ā€˜burdensomeā€™ just trying to breath there.

Is this really the future they want? I was a kid in the 60s with brown smog in Los Angeles so thick, you couldnā€™t see the downtown buildings, and my lungs ached when I took deep breaths.

Iā€™d prefer not to return to that ā€œgolden ageā€ of ā€˜unburdened capitalismā€™, thank you very muchā€¦!

And they know it will kill people but donā€™t care

Back when the berlin wall was taken down and all the east bloc countries went capitalist, people were shocked to see the level of pollution in those countries and what it had done to the health and lifespans of people living there. Because over here the DFH got the clean air and clean water acts passed, while over there the environmentalists got jailed.

So much for that advantage of capitalism over totalitarianism.

Anti-American Republicans want to make that the test. It isnā€™t. All regulation is ā€œburdensome,ā€ compared to doing whatever the hell anyone wants.

The test is: is it effective?

The only kind of regulation republicans donā€™t think ā€œburdensomeā€ is rules limiting legal redress for injuries.
