Discussion: EPA Orders Volkswagen Recall Nearly 500K Cars That Dodge Emission Rules

Discussion for article #240721

“Dodge”… Freudian?

Ouch. Wow. If VW are going to these lengths to evade emissions testing, what lengths are they going to to evade safety testing, gas mileage testing, etc?

That is one company I will not be entrusting with my family’s lives.

That said, was VW the only company to develop this detection routine and act on it? Is this a first domino or truly the sole bad actor in the industry? A major company getting away with cheating on their tests for 7 years seems unlikely to be doing it all alone.

This seems something of a nothingburger because in my state, if it runs on diesel it’s exempt from pollution testing. So why try to fool a test that won’t be applied, and if it won’t be applied, what does it matter if it could fool the test?

It also does not seem fair to target cars when those big tractor-trailers put out clouds of black exhaust. I guess the EPA are your typical bullys – go after the little guy who can’t fight back, but when a business is involved, tail between the legs and run away.

Black Lungs Matter.
