Wow. Corporate types infesting campuses, take note.

Yes, when the football team got involved. And happily, they were supported by the coach.

Big money, future prospects and donors at risk.

How nice to see big clout wielded by the minority on that campus.

As always, follow the money. Here’s to more success.

No payback, please, unless y’all really want to have the wrath of those who champion this action brought down upon you.

This is more about tone-deafness than anything. Well, it is also a lesson for anybody (especially those from the business world) taking a president position at a university - President does not equal 'Warden" it does not make you King - - and most successful University Presidents will tell you - it is s role in which you end up having to listen to lots of people and kiss a lot of butt - - if you can’t stand that - stay in industry.

R. Bowen Loftin, the chancellor of the University of Missouri’s flagship Columbia campus, will resign at the end of the year

I’ve never understood names like that. Do people call him “R”? If they call him Bowen, then why isn’t his name listed as “Bowen Loftin?”

well…that, and maybe make an effort to recognize casual racism, which is endemic to the US. it’s so pervasive, most people don’t even notice it.

I read somewhere that Tim Wolfe, the University of Missouri system president, had been in his office until the early morning hours before announcing his resignation.

Anybody want to bet he was discussing the terms of his golden parachute?

Uh, uh. Expect more right-wing outrage on social media very soon. They are already upset about Wolfe resigning, and Lofton announcing his retirement at the end of the year just might send them over the cliff into the cesspit of madness [not that they’re not already two steps away.]

I never understood that either, C. Harlie E. It’s screams “I’m a white, elitist prick!”

Sincerely,
A. Be Sure

Richard Bowen Loftin, better known as R. Bowen Loftin is chancellor of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He came to Missouri in 2013 after serving as the 24th President of Texas A&M University.

While I’m tempted to go for it…nah, I need a beer.

Is it common for incoming students not to take diversity training these days? Apparently the Chancellor just didn’t understand the importance of such training for all students and staff. He must have operated in a closed world.

The biggest mistake made by the University was appeasing the protesters. Do you think this is all they wanted? Hell no, they are now demanding to co-govern the entire University system. You should never give in to extremist.

As for the football team, the first thing I would have done is fired the coach and then rescinded every scholarship from any player who decided they weren’t going to play for breach of contract. These players are being paid between 25,000 and 40,000 dollars a year to play football, so if you don’t want to play go home. The University of Missouri would have little trouble getting a coach to coach a big-time SEC team, as well as there are many players who would crawl over glass to play for Missouri.
