Discussion: Emails Show That GOP Staff Stonewalled Ramirez's Attempt To Testify

So many lies surround this nomination. Grassleyā€™s is just one more.

Perhaps we will see an impeachment of a Supreme Court Justice after confirmation and after the Dā€™s take over congress. I can dream canā€™t I?

Curious to hear from lawyer types about the possibility of impeaching a SCOTUS justice. If Dems take the House, and they investigate these claims and find evidence, can anything be done?

On another note: as an Iowan once again I must apologize for the farmer chairing the Judiciary Committee and the 50% of Iowans that support him.

Have to take the Senate. The Senate has advise and consent duties, not the House. AND you still have to have the votes to impeach. But you sure can make him look bad.

If enough accusers step up, the State of Maryland might get to lock him up first.

Not a lawyer type, but the process for removing a Supreme Court Justice is similar for removing a President, impeachment in the House and conviction in the Senate. As for how easy it is, the last and only time a SCJ was impeached was around 1805 and he wasnā€™t convicted, although if I remember correctly there has been one case since then of a SCJ resigning before they could be impeached.

Lower bar though for a criminal investigation though, right? What if the Senate Judiciary Committee investigated K for perjury?

The more brazenly unethical and criminal the GOP gets, the more I ask myself what sort of October surprise they have lined up. It will have to be amazing to neutralize the votes of all the people they have alienated recently.

Let me comment.
The system is designed to be slow and cumbersome on purpose. It ensures continuity and time for thought and thorough investigation .

I donā€™t know, as I said I donā€™t have any legal background so Iā€™m not really sure if there are any special rules/laws that would apply. Iā€™m just going by what I remember from looking up some stuff on the history of Supreme Court impeachments when people first started speculating on that. Unfortunately, Iā€™m not in a place/have the time right now where I can dig through that stuff again so Iā€™m going from memory. That said I think that the resignation I mentioned was in response to criminal investigations that made impeachment/ conviction seem inevitable, sort of like Nixonā€™s whole resigning before he could be impeached. In anycase I would guess that House/Senate investigations, depending on what we flip, that drag more dirt out probably couldnā€™t hurt.

Yep. Now they are lying about what everyone on the left said. Cornyn is ā€˜offendedā€™ that Rameriz even HAS an attorney. You know. A ā€˜pornā€™ lawyer. Now he is upset that we are attacking a poor alcoholic because you knowā€¦depression. They make me sick.

Ooops!

ā€œIā€™ve never encountered an instance where the Committee has refused even to speak with an individual or counsel."

Ever since The Orange Oaf declared his candidacy and began his violence-laced rhetoric and idiotic word salads, thereā€™s been an obvious and disturbing response to his (and his administration) craziness: everyone points out how his actions/statements are non-traditional, unprecedented, never-before-seen, never-before-encountered, highly unusual, blah, blah, blah. Drumpf has zero interest in or respect for tradition, protocol, dignity, fair play, etc. He knows thereā€™s nothing anyone can do just because heā€™s breaking with tradition, protocol and history. Heā€™s a wrecking ball of insanity and criminality and couldnā€™t care less about what anyone says about him trampling on everything. So, when Dems act surprised and get out their smelling salts (on the fainting couch) itā€™s ridiculous. This mentally ill president isnā€™t capable of self-reflection or reason. Expect the worst and the most unfair everything from Drumpf; he will not fail to deliver.

On Friday, during the Senate Judiciary Committeeā€™s speeches preceding the vote on Kavanaugh, Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) doubled down on his insistence that his staff had done all they could to reach Ramirez and get her testimony, but that they were stymied by her lack of cooperation need to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that he and his corrupt cohorts would do whatever was necessary to put the final stake through the heart of the last remaining branch of the federal government.

Fixed.

Fun Fact: He also ensured all the graves of the Rethugliklan members of the 2018 Senate Judiciary Committee will be included on Tio Wallyā€™s Shit On Their Gravesā„¢ Tours.

ā€œThe President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.ā€ Article II, Section 4

A Justice can be impeached but the problem is the same for Kavanaugh as it is for Trump. A Democratic House can impeach Kavanaugh but there is no way enough GOP senators will vote to convict.
