Discussion: Elaine From 'Seinfeld' Appears At Dem Debate On 'SNL'

JLD is a comedy treasure. SNL, not so much.

Yada Yada Yada is about right for Bernie’s fantasies.

It’s not that his ideas aren’t good; it’s that getting a GOP congress to agree will be impossible.

He doesn’t need the GOP Congress, he’s going to lead a revolution! And that revolution will be revolutionary! And once that revolutionary revolution is over, the banks will be all broken up, the millionaires and billionaires will be paying their fair share and we’ll have Medicare for all.

BELIEVE!!!

Europe is trying to get away from the Socialism that has rendered them incapable of economic growth…the same socialism Sanders wants to bring to the US…15% of employees are government
employees in the US…40% of employees are government employees in Denmark.

Whenever I ask HillaryBots to list all the good decisions she’s made, I get a lot of yada, yada, yada.

I’m sure there were a lot of yada, yada’s in her speech’s to the big banks. That’s about $75,000 per yada.

The issue is demand side bias policy regime vs supply.

FDR gave us demand side bias. By the late 70s we reached the saturation point and started having inflationary recessions. so…

In 1980 Reagan gave us supply side bias regime. By the late 90s we reached the saturation point: started having deflationary pressure recessions and investment bubbles and growing demand for deregulation - we reached the saturation point for supply side regime. Time to swing back to demand. .

But because of the Supreme Court and Bush we got 8 more years of uber supply side - covering his tracks with cheap&ez credit, triggering housing bubble, when the credit ran out, the bubble popped bringing down everything. Obama patched things up but we are still limping along in supply side saturation. Just this year 7 years after the crash and after 6 years creating over 10 million jobs the middle class fell below 50% for the first time in over a half century. Obama patched up Wall st., has left Main St. in sufferance and the nation continues to limp along in supply side.

Bernie’s the only guy advocating a full throated return to demand side economics: $15/hr min wage, $1 trillion for infrastructure construction, stronger unions.

Hillary is campaigning for a 3rd Obama term.

So to me the real issue is commitment to demand side economics. And in my estimation, Bernie’s $1 trillion just barely tips things in the right direction (we need about three times even that, IMHO). Half-measure Hillary is offering $250 billion for infrastructure. The real problem isn’t limited to her half measures, the problem is those half measures reallly indicate she’s not really interested in doing any heavy lifting to get us onto demand side.

So the issue is demand vs supply and Hillary is on the wrong side of that. And it seems obvious to me.

(This by the way is why the young are so radically committed to Bernies. Fewer people under 40 are getting married, fewer still are having kids. They’ve been waiting 18 years since the dot com bubble to get an economy with sufficient opportunity to live a normal adult life. Putting it off another 8 years is not an option for them. Telling them what they want is rainbows and unicorns gets them angry, and when they are told by a baby boomer who was lavished in those same rainbows and unicorns their entire life, they get angrier still).

thanks - thoughtful post

Oh, but you said she was going to be Bush’s 3rd term back in 2008. Now that she’s going to be Obama’s 3rd term, one supposes this is tacit admission that he’s a horrible president and that his administration has been a failure, so she needs to pay for his sins.

That’s also good to know, what with 2 upaid-for wars that not only is Saint Bernie assuming to be the commander in chief of, but should probably be factored in with his easy peasy plan to re-do the nation’s economy within the first 100 days. It’s unlikely that young people, who do not pay their own way in life and are still on mommy and daddy’s health insurance (curse you, horrible Obama for that one!) will be more than willing to make all the sacrifices necessary to realize this. Not doing so would be counter-revolutionary.

It’s not about demand vs. supply side economics, it’s about getting bills passed in Congress. FDR was able to get his “demand side bias” because he had 76 Democrats in the Senate and 334 Democrats in the House by 1937.

Good ideas are a dime a dozen in politics. In order to be successful, you have to have realistic ideas and the ability to implement them. No one on the left is saying that Bernie is wrong about the banks being too big or that the rich get too many breaks, but the solutions he is proposing don’t acknowledge reality.

Yeah, Bernie’s going to fix it. Except I’ve listened and listened and I have no idea how he will break up banks or do over Wall Street.

As for waiting to have a real life - my husband was going to retire in '08, too but he couldn’t. We had to wait too. The Repugs did that to us all.

It wasn’t Obama, it wasn’t Hillary, it was the Repugs who started retooling our economy in the 80s, which you may not have been around for. What happened was the culmination of years and years of Repug economics.

Rubbish from a Palin voter, pretending to know something about Europe.

Yeah as far as Europe goes, it seems always as if Bernie and his supporters want so badly to turn our economy into a European style socialist economy and the youth unemployment rates in the EU are staggering. Staggering!

That’s why we need Hillary, because they’re absolutely, positively going to agree to everything she proposes, right?

The SNL writers are showing their age. The last “Seinfeld” episode was 18 years ago, and a good number of the people who watched the show have no idea who Elaine is.

Their loss then.

Exactly. As with your FDR example a Democratic majority is hugely important.

WHO KNEW…
Hillary would be HELD responsible for 'DON’T ask DON’T tell. and
the laws passed back-in-the-day for drug offenders.
Dang-you-Hillary IT’S all your fault that BLACKS were caught in that NET.
So if we use Bernie’s logic, his wife is RESPONSIBLE for his HOARDING of campaign contributions. Bernie’s wife is responsible for BERNIES GREED. Is Bernie a DEMOCRAT??? Is Bernie part of the TEAM DNC? Is Bernie welling to HELP other Democrats.

BTW, DANG YOU LAURA BUSH, IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT THAT WE ATTACKED IRAQ.

And Denmark is the happiest country on earth. You´d like to bring them down to our level of depression, I assume.

@tena

Bhutan is the happiest country on earth, Carlos. Keep up.

Denmark is happy mainly because they are a country of conformists. The US is not.
