Ecuador Cuts Off Julian Assange’s (fill in the blank) Outside London Embassy
Heh, heh, heh.
Maybe they’ll make up a list of chores for him while they’re at it… clean his room, do his laundry, sort the recycling…maybe some light cleaning in the rest of the embassy…windows, dusting…
Anyone know what he’s been up to on social media lately that would have triggered this?
The Ecuadorian government said in statement that it had acted because Assange had breached “a written commitment made to the government at the end of 2017 not to issue messages that might interfere with other states”.
…
The move came after Assange tweeted on Monday challenging Britain’s accusation that Russia was responsible for the nerve agent poisoning of a Russian former double agent and his daughter in the English city of Salisbury earlier this month.
The WikiLeaks founder also questioned the decision by the UK and more than 20 other countries to retaliate against the poisoning by expelling Russian diplomats deemed spies. (The Guardian, 3-28-18)
The usual: being a tool for his Russian masters.
Apparently, the pendulum has now swung far enough.
What would be involved in smuggling him out of the embassy to some other country?
What are the impediments the UK government has in place to stop that? Are they checking every garbage can that goes out?
Assange is a criminal. The Ecuadorians should kick him out so he can face the music for his criminal acts. Maybe then he can implicate some of his criminal GOP buddies.
Damn, who’s paying for Assange’s food, rent, utilities, internet access?
I mean, five years? Is Ecuador really picking up the tab for all that, or is someone else paying them to let Assange stay there? You’d think that at some point the Ecuadoran people would get sick of paying taxes to support this moocher.
Hey Julian, tell your story to Mueller, he can get you immunity…
How much legal jeopardy is he actually in? Sweden dropped the rape charges, yes? This says Britain wants him for bail jumping. How bad could that be? Would Britain extradite him to US, or elsewhere? I know he claims to be a political prisoner, but I don’t have a sense of his fate were Ecuador to give him the boot.
I would have been happiest with:
“Ecuador Drops off Julian Assange (plus his luggage, computer, and personal effects) Outside London Embassy”
Yes. The Embassy is surround by police which is a sore point for the people of Ecuador. That’s why the majority of them want Assange out of their joint. What started this was Assange’s meddling with the Catalonia independence movement. Again a situation the man knows zilch about. Madrid rang up the Embassy and let them know they were pissed off that Ecuador was providing resources to this idiot. The Embassy clamped down and temporarily took his internet away. When they gave it back he went right back at agitating situations he knows nothing of. He’ll be out of that Embassy soon enough. In the last Ecuadorian presidential election Assange was a major issue. He’s very unpopular with their people.
Fish and visitors stink in three days. - Benjamin Franklin
After five years, the pong must be overwhelming.
O my god - I should have known he would. O I hate that man. Fuck you Assange!
I would prefer the folks in the Embassy show Julian the door and suggest it not hit him on the way out.
Assange needed asylum even after the charge in Sweden was dropped? How bad is the legal consequence of jumping bail in England? Do they lop heads off?
And also to answer my own question above:
Assange also suspects there is a secret US grand jury indictment against him and American authorities will seek his extradition.
Assange’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson said before Tuesday’s hearing that the US government had made clear its intention to bring a prosecution against WikiLeaks.
My understanding is that the dropping of the Swedish charges were based solely on the Swedish investigators being unable to pursue the investigation due to his unavaiability and that they could be reinstitued should that change.
Respectfully -
Pretty sure that the US IC would look askance at any offer of immunity for that prima donna.
I believe he is more concerned about the Illegal jeopardy. Haven’t you heard about the recent poisonings in London?
If reporting is correct, what’s keeping Assange in Ecuadorian asylum is the fear that GB will ultimately hand him over to US to face charges here over Snowden, et al.
McStubbins & Guardian piece are way ahead of me on this one
