Discussion: 'Dukes Of Hazzard' Star Blasts TV Land For Pulling Reruns

Discussion for article #238116

Just blur out the rebel flag and only show episodes with Catherine Bach in a bikini!!!

Or Daisy Dukes and a tight shirts.

I was going to suggest striping the car of the flag and her of the shorts, but I didn’t want to show my lack of pride for the south or respect for women, so I won’t say it…opps!

And apparently neither Schneider nor Wopat, like Jindal, know the fun responses they will probably be getting on twitter.

Does John get a syndication check by any chance?

“John Schneider, who played Bo Duke on ‘The Dukes of Hazzard,’ on Wednesday unloaded on TV Land for pulling reruns of the show from its schedule….”

Why are Republicans so outraged by private enterprise making business decisions in the interest of shareholders and the bottom line?

Why do they hate capitalism and the free market?

He claimed not much but probably more than any he’ll get for the reverse mortgage ads he’ll soon have to do with Fred Thompson!

Saying a show from the early 1980s doesn’t have any overt racism is being a wee bit willfully ignorant. Simply addressed, the show was part of the history of downplaying the roots of white southern ‘pride’, being racism and suppression of blacks.

Now, if they actually had an episode where Daisy is engaged to a black man, but the boys and Uncle Jessy have to bootleg her and her beau up to the North to escape being arrested and lynched for miscegenation, then I’ll argue for keeping it on the air.

But they can’t pull Dukes of Hazzard! If they do that, all that’s left on the tube for Shitburner Jr. to masturbate to will be Civil War reeenactments and Bull Connor’s fire hose!

They only care when it’s affecting their bottom line!

Hey but it did promote careful high speed, if outside the law, driving skills and moonshining…er I mean ethanol production that could be used to reduce global warming if there was such a thing!

The new version will be set in Peru and titled “Amos in the Andes.”

Since the battle flag was resurrected for Strom’s racist presidential run and reused in the 60s against Civil Rights, what was CBS’ reason for using it as a comedy show prop from 1979 to 1985?

I don’t like the Confederate battle flag.

But “The Dukes of Hazzard” shouldn’t be reduced to that one aspect. I enjoyed watching the show as a child. We lived in suburban NY at the time.

The show has an anti-authoritarian message. The villain, Boss Hogg, is a rich man who controls the police department.

I disagree with canceling the re-runs.

Agreed. This is f**king stupid.

Of course he did-it impacts his residual payments!

I agree, this is complete reactionary nonsense. The car was meant as a bone fide of the Dukes being “good ol’ boy” southerners which, until about 2 weeks ago, was expressed by donning the Stars & Bars and an admiration of General Lee.

The episodes where they replaced them with scabs are still the best.
