Discussion: Drunk Indiana University Student Arrested For Violent Assault Of Muslim Mother

Why is this not being treated as a hate crime, yeah even domestic terrorism?

But no guarantee he remains sober.

Who would ever believe that Christianity is such a violent religion. Why didnā€™t his Pastor speak up about the dangers of prejudice? His Pastor should have seen this coming! Clear indications of ideologically based inclinations towards terrorism.

/Iā€™m not sure if this is snark or not.

I rather hope that someone checks this kidā€™s computer.

Well heā€™s white, so thatā€™s only right. High bail is reserved for dangerous people.

And meanwhile, the GOP will disavow all complicity in the fearmongering BS they have engaged in for 14 yearsā€¦

Didnā€™t arresting him interfere with the free exercise of his religious beliefs?

And, at least on Disqus, a couple of dozen authoritarian assholes there to tell us he had it cominā€™.

If only heā€™d had some jalapeno-bacon mac and cheese to calm him down.

And that pretty much says it all.

Bail is typically used in two situations, to ensure someone shows up at court and public safety. I suspect that since alcohol was involved here, and, again just guessing, he has no prior record, there was not a very compelling argument that public safety was endangered if he was released with a requirement that he abstain from dugs and alcohol and come to court. Because our system considers people innocent until proven guilty most courts require that the least restrictive means be used, as they are a restraint on the liberty of an innocent person.

Heā€™ll undoubtedly be on a short leash though and any slip up could cost him either a significantly higher bail, or depending on the situation, revocation all together.

Indiana: The Mississippi of the Midwest

Heā€™s 19 and has a proven inability to control violent impulses. An inability to control yourself at that age under these circumstances could reasonably be deemed to extend to an inability to abstain from drugs and alcohol, even at the direction of the court. He assaulted a woman in public, followed by assaulting a police officer. Due to the statements of witnesses the crime could be interpreted as based on race and/or religion, a hate crime offense. You may be correct, but this low bail would seem to depend on the most generous (or lax) rules regarding the granting of bail the judge could avail himself of. Similar crimes and the totality of the situation would land some people in an involuntary psyche commitment for a few days, not set free for a percentage of $2000.

Itā€™s Northern Kentucky.

He looks like a child just sprouting his first fuzz on his chin. Itā€™s sad his parents canā€™t be compelled to testify to his upbringing, ā€œbut heā€™s such a nice young man to all the white girls and is always showinā€™ his manners to his betters. He just gets defensive around these godless heathens who want to eat the soul of good Christian folks. I bet that woman had some part in 9/11.ā€

Generational racism, front and center, just add alcohol.

Heā€™s away at college. His parents may be OK people. All thatā€™s needed for this is a gullible, unsophisticated mind and the dorm TV tuned round the clock to Fox News and Presto!, you have the Muslim knock-out game.

But, butā€¦heā€™s passionate! Loves his country! Wants America to be great again!

Triceten? Who the eff would name their kid Triceten?

His brothers Pierpoint and Fordyce think itā€™s cute.

Some of what youā€™re saying is correct, some is incorrect. What he has shown is that when under the influence, he was unable to control his violent impulses. The court granted bail because this situation appears to be an aberration in that this kid has no demonstrated history of being dangerous when sober.

I work in this field and see violent crimes committed every day and see people released on conditions every day. This is how our system works.

What a manly man! He chose to attack the woman in front of her daughter and husband.

Why didnā€™t his ā€˜heroicā€™ racial pride rage extend to her husband?
