Republicans seldom win honest elections.

Well, this was a subtle plan. How many people did McCrae Dowless have doing this?

I’m guessing he sold nation-wide franchises…

Just like a hamberder chain…

Whoa. I know a couple of prosecutors but I don’t even have to call them to know that someone is in trouble.

I cannot understand why the solution here shouldn’t be to disqualify the GOP candidate (Harris) and award the seat to the Democrat (McCready) (might be an issue of NC law, but I would think a judge could order such a remedy). If you cheat, you should forfeit, period. Harris hired McCrae Dowless (even a novelist couldn’t come up with a more appropriate name for a huckster character in a tale of corrupt southern politics). Dowless ordered people to forge absentee ballots among other things. The margin was less than 1000 votes (though I don’t think the margin should matter in such a case). The GOP cheated, hired a dirty tricks guy to get them an edge if the election was close, and ‘won’ the e-day vote. This is cheating. Just disqualify the motherf***er, award the seat to McCready and get on with it. I don’t think the GOP should get another bite at the apple after they poisoned the tree. They should be disqualified, forced to pay fines, and be told that they have to wait to the next election cycle.

Yet another crystal clear example of why Rethugs are sooooo worried about election fraud.

She’s still trying to shade things so that you could imagine they didn’t have such a big effect on the congressional race. Well, except for the ballots they destroyed. And the ballots other conspirators filled in…

HOLY SHIT!!! This is YUGE!

I think they should disqualify the entire state GOP. I still say there is no fucking way the entire party wasn’t involved in this. RICO, baby!

It’s true. ‘McCrae Dowless’ sounds like the name of a crooked accountant in a Travis McGee novel.

Scratch that last part. They should forfeit the right to ever seek public office again. Forever!

Marking down ballot votes for Republicans could not have affected the Congressional race, but It has bee reported previously that more than 90% of absentee votes in that contest went to the Republican. What else did Dowless do? Did he discard most of the ballots which were cast for the Democrat at the top of the ticket?
Will the Elections board now invalidate all the results, rather than only the Congressional race?

It makes you wonder how many GOP state parties pulled this shit in the rest of the country. Wait, we don’t have to wonder. We KNOW they pulled this shit in the rest of the country!

I’m good with a 10 year ban. But GOPers will just run as Indies. The minimum ought to be that if a guy your campaign hired cheated and affected the vote count by even one vote, you forfeit the race, period. That’s how you stop this crap. Put in real penalties for cheating. The ultimate penalty is not to send some lower level person to jail, but to punish the candidate and party that solicited such help by denying them that which they seek through cheating: winning offices.

Or a W C Fields character.- Showing my age.

There is election fraud, it just tends to be committed by Republicans.

This is election fraud, plain and simple. Dowless should be in prison.

HOWEVER, it brings up the larger point of vote-by-mail, which is often touted as a solution to low voter turnout. There is NO guarantee that this will not happen in any vote-by-mail situation. In fact, in any situation in which proper identification is not obtained, things can happen. This situation is an argument IN FAVOR OF Voter ID.

I have often heard of unscrupulous “voter aides” in assisted living places “assisting” older persons, some with cognitive limitations from AD and so forth, in filling out the ballots “correctly”.
