Second, GWB was most certainly a nutcase, which doesn’t change whether he was a dry-drunk. Myself, I don’t want to have a beer after on his first week he cancelled Kyoto, re-instituted the international gag rule on abortion for family planning agencies, lied about the Clinton people takeing the “W” key off all the keyboards, and turned his back on al Qaeda solely because the Clinton people said he should see it. He was most certainly a nutcase.

I have said all along that we need to go out of our way to make sure we don’t lose Bernie’s supporters, not because of Bernie, but because we need the votes and the Bernie supporters are a big part of the future of the Democratic party. Over the weekend I discovered that the Hillarybots foaming at their mouths to throw the BernieBros under the bus here are representative of the insiders at the DNC. The same insiders who don’t really believe in the traditional reasons for a Democratic party. If we lose this election it will be because Hillarybots have closed eyes and minds and don’t think strategically.
What you express is exactly what the right wants. Fear, fear and more fear based on an issue that only a small percentage of voters are paying attention to at this point. This flap doesn’t give trump the women, Latino and minorities voters he needs to win. The right’s counting on the left to be scared shitless. Don’t go there.
If fear of Trump is what it takes for Democrats to take a good look and to start working, I say go there. It is better to be afraid than to be complacent.
Debt Trap Debbie was booed off the stage this morning at a breakfast for the Florida delegation. She had to truncate her remarks and be escorted out. They shouted “Shame!” as if she was Queen Cersei. Yet as of now, they’re insisting she’ll be gaveling-in the convention and closing it on the last day.
Now, I know that the party has fallen woefully out of touch with many in its rank-and-file, particularly those who labor for a living, but having Debt Trap Debbie on the podium would be the ultimate display of arrogant tone deafness.
You’re addressing my post in your response to @manziel. So I’ll rephrase it. It’s not a choice between fear or complacency since neither are constructive. The facts of the trump campaign remain the same. He’s a hateful bigot who gave us a vision of midnight in America, they shouted and screamed about Clinton but he gave no policy proposals, just fear, fear and more fear. We who support Clinton are not complacent but clear eyed. We understand that she’s running a campaign which needs volunteers, working the phones etc., and we also see poll numbers and how much support she is getting from the diverse population of Americans, unlike trump’s fans who only want to execute her. We also should know if we don’t that after the PHL convention the campaign will get a bump, but by and large not as many people are tuned in esp. to the minutiae we fixate on daily.
Rather, they let 500 corporate lobbyists forge the blueprint for corporate governance in secrecy, and then foist it on the world as an all-or-nothing proposition. That’s not negotiating, that hijacking our sovereignty. In case you haven’t noticed, TransCanada is already suing us for $15B on NAFTA grounds for lost profits for rejecting Keystone XL. Thanks, Bill Clinton!
And of course, as Madame Secretary pointed out before pretending she’s against it, the TPP is the gold standard. You know, the golden rule. Those who have the gold rule.
There were corporate representatives as well as labor representatives working on the TPP document – how else are you going to get an agreement that stands a chance of getting passed?
And how are you going to finalize an agreement between 12 different nations if each round of negotiations, each potentially contentious point, is subject to inanities of a media circus more interested in shallow sensationalism and fact-free drama?
And as far as an all-or-nothing proposition, I would rather have President Obama – a man who rescued the economy from a depression, saved two automakers from extinction, and championed labor rights and environmental protections – be in charge of finalizing a trade agreement than a no-nothing Congress that takes much of the year off and, when they do actually appear in session, are more interested in re-litigating Obamacare, Ben Ghazi or Hillary’s emails than help get this country moving forward again.
And I say let TransCanada follow through with their attempt to sue us for rejecting Keystone. The US has never lost a case before an international trade tribunal, and I would welcome the prospect of TransCanada’s poor environmental record and political strong-arming – threatening property owners with eminent domain – seeing the light of day.
And as far as TPP, if that does not pass than we are stuck with the status quo, which is NAFTA – which you have already stated that you hate.
