Well, from my view, the meta scene is what makes it really bad. NH is the Establishment’s best shot at placing in the top 2. If you aggregate Kasich, Christie, Bush and Rubio’s numbers…they would top Trump. But instead, they are pulling apart each other, guaranteeing that none of them gets a 1st or 2nd place finish.

Christie’s surge? He had a slight bump from obscurity to nowhere after a right leaning newspaper in NH endorsed him. ( a newspaper with a history of endorsing losers ) It seems some voters in that state decided to move over to his camp based on that endorsement but it only took him to 4th place in a small state and did so with a very modest increase in support. You go from 9th to 4th in this race with a pickup of 2 %. To get to the 1,2 or 3 position he’s going to need a surge. He’s not going to get that.
The GOP “establishment” ( Mega donors, folks like Karl Rove, Rodger Ailes and ex Pols like Romney ) aren’t worried about Christie. He’s going no where, they know that and they’re not putting energy into him. They want a GOP’er in the White House. Trump’s never going there. Cruz is never going there nor is Christie. They have a shot with Rubio and despite what Josh Marshall said, if that’s who the “establishment” wants that’s whose going to be the man. The “establishment” owns and controls all avenues of GOP’er thinking. And it’s still very early.

A very good case can be made Bin Laden substantially achieved this on 9/11. The U.S. has pissed away in the deserts and cities of Afghanistan and Iraq a trillion dollars that could have instead shored up the entire spectrum of safety net programs AND rebuilt a great deal of domestic infrastructure. Bush’s reaction and the subsequent wars have hardened and entrenched a polarity in our society and politics that may be intractable and our ultimate undoing. Additionally, whatever peace or stability was once possible in the Middle East and the Muslim world’s attitude toward the U.S. have been trashed in no small measure in the last 14 years. You want to radicalize a 14 year old Iraqi? Sit them down and unfurl a pictorial of Abu Ghraib before their eyes. Both Republicans and Democrats share the blame for that.
What you fear happening on Election Day 2015 may have already occurred on 9/11/2001.

Yes the modern GOP is much of that. But …its what their supporters want. It’s not a bad thing for them. There is nothing to reveal …it’s all known and GOP’ers want more of it.

What is amaizing is the Trump, Chriz and Carson are the top three. All non-establishment candidates. For the most part hated by the party brass. The GOP have now lost total control of their party. This is what happens when you encourage and support the loonies in the asylum, eventually the inmates take over.

Ummm…check that last paragraph in the article. Less than half of the respondents admitted to being Republicken or Republicken-leaning.
The group you (correctly) characterize as a cesspool almost certainly contains more than a few “Independents”, probably even some totally out-of-touch Reagan Democrats that haven’t been paying attention since the 1980’s.
For me, the only bright spot is that “Grifter Hands” Carson is fading fast.

Aren’t we all. He deserves a third term. “Shouldn’t change horses in the middle of a stream”, especially when the river is polluted with hateful, xenophobic bullshit.
I agree with you that it’s not going to be Trump and that Christie is irrelevant, but I don’t think that you can write off Cruz. He’s already benefited directly from Carson’s ongoing cratering, and of the remaining candidates, he’s the only one that Trump supporters would have any sympathy for, which is the main reason that Cruz has refrained from criticizing Trump so far.
It’s basically coalescing right now into a three-way shit-flinging contest between Mein Trumpf, Tail-Gunner Ted, and Rubio.
