My company does deals all the time (I am its General Counsel) and believe me we make sure to have all necessary documents and consents in place so that the closing can occur without senior executives “present”
This is a truly bogus excuse. He’s clearly running away from yesterday’s fiasco at his town hall meeting and doesn’t have the guts to face the public.

Last I heard, DeMint was bitterly demanding that Rs vote to terminate Obamacare and when faced with the certainty that Obama would veto the destruction of his signature achievement, he answered haughtily. "Well we don’t know that, do we?!!"
