He is receiving exactly what he wants, however. Just look at how many articles TPM has on Trump today. Krauthammer is getting into it about him. The MSM is going on and on about him entering the race. And the crazier he gets (Oprah will be my running mate!) the more attention and coverage he will get.
Which just keeps pushing him up in the national polls.
He WILL be in the debates and he WILL push them farther into the crazy category, forcing the other candidates to either embrace or at least use, what will be very precious minutes, addressing his crazy. And he WILL drop out before the first vote is cast in Iowa. But the damage will have been done.

He is not a true conspiracy “theorist” actually. Such people usually actually believe all kinds of conspiracy theories, and are either nuts or not too bright.
Trump is a selective as to his “conspiracies”. He knows damn well that Obama was born in Hawaii, but it’s in his best interests to say otherwise. He’s more of a guy that peddles conspiracy theories, not who believes them.
Think Richard Gage of 9/11 Truth. He knows the Towers and 7 fell from fires primarily. But he needs to “sell” the idea they were “controlled demos” so he can keep making money, and to save face. And gullible people actually believe him. Same here. Trump feeds off the gullible by saying Obama was born in Kenya, and even if confronted with video of the birth in Hawaii, would never admit he was wrong.
He has a VERY marketable name. Trump is a cool name. If his name was Don Smith, he is a nobody. People pay licensing fees for his name, and it works quite well. He has an incredible amount of licensing agreements. You can’t lose on those. They pay you for the name. If the product flops, you still have the money. If it takes off, you then also get a piece of the action.
To Donald Trump’s credit, he failed to mention that he – Donald Trump – was single handedly responsible for Mitt Romney’s primary victory in the 2012 election.
Mitt Romney was doing terribly until Ann Romney and Mitt Romney met with Donald Trump in a hotel room in Las Vegas and kissed Donald Trump’s ring. Mitt’s fortunes revived miraculously as a direct result.
I hope that Mitt Romney and Ann Romney will stand shoulder to shoulder with Donald and Melania Trump in this campaign. They owe him a big debt of gratitude.
