OK so if the owners vote to ‘strip’ Sterling of his franchise, does that mean he loses everything, he no longer has a franchise to sell? Or are they mandating that he sell it and the league operates the franchise in the interim?
I guess if won’t sell the team maybe that means he’ll be giving it away. How kind of him.
Anyone want to bet he assumed that he was going to get away with this and not face anything harsher than a mild slap on the wrist?
If he thought he was going to get away with making such comments once they emerged, he was an idiot. It’s hard to think of an organization less able to offend African Americans than the NBA. Basic business strategy dictates this clown has got to go.
IANAL-- but IMO-- the NBA will give Sterling the opportunity to sell within a timeframe.
Once up? They will strip him of the franchise-- sell it and render the proceeds.

I would believe the NBA is empowered to fine Sterling again. Let’s see… $2.5 million a day for 300 days should take care of him.
Oh yes, they are Donald.
The players have ALL the power here. Silver’s move was made to pre-empt the players move. If the Silver doesn’t do this, then the players start refusing to play games. If the NBA fines the players who don’t play, then other players refuse to play and this turns into a full-blown strike. Since the players have the unique ability that people pay to see, then the players would win. If the players win, the owners lose money in the short run, and lose LOTS of power in the long run. The players would have taken the power to fire an owner, and power taken is never given back. This was the only move Silver could make and the owners will back him up.
Of course, he tells this to a Fox reporter. Who else watches Fox other than 70+ year old white men? Oh, a few white women over 50, too, the married ones who hope their husbands die soon and leave them millions.
suddenly seeing Sterling as Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove (ironic name here) - electing to ride this bomb to its ultimate conclusion.
Watch Sterling’s family cut a deal with the girlfriend to drop all charges in exchange for her giving them the 100+ hours of audio tapes - and then the family will use the tapes to prove that Sterling is irrational & mentally incompetent - and so they can take control of the team & sell it.
I’m not 100% sure, but I believe the new CBA has safeguards agains t strikes, walkouts and the like. I think that if individual players were to refuse to play games, they would all be in breach of contract and legally vulnerable. I think that Kevin Johnson and Chris Paul (NBAPA President) presented that info to them over the weekend, and that’s why the talk subsided.
Apparently Sterling is oblivious to the sentiment in the country right now. Why would he even WANT to remain the owner when he must know,at this point, nobody will want to play for him?
The 1% and .01% are incredibly out of touch.
That’s the usual case for a billionaire. Different rules apply. See Dimon, James for reference. Dimon’s crimes are on a much higher order of magnitude, but he still got away with a paltry fine/slap on the wrist
All that’s left to decide is the price. It can be market value OR ZERO.
YOU PICK HATER… You’re done…
“Donald Sterling tells Fox reporters that the Clippers are not for sale.”
Sterling, do you wanna bet on that?
I agree with you JW1 but I think the NBA is going to get sued for a HUGE amount of damages by Sterling.
I understand the position the NBA is in but Sterling has no reason to cooperate at this point.
Incredibly out of touch old person demonstrates how out of touch he is.
