I’m pretty sure Sessions has a terrible attitude toward civil rights and massively over-favors the police, but in this particular case, the Obama administration’s DOJ looked twice at the possibility of bringing a civil rights case and decided both times that the evidence was inadequate. (It’s in the article.) Sessions is just confirming what Obama’s DOJ had already concluded.

My comment was more general. But from what I’ve read of the judge’s decision, I’ve got to wonder if he’d have found the same way if the cop were black and the (apparent) drug dealer white.
Absolutely agree there’s systemic racism. Also that this was a shocking case. I’m certainly not disagreeing with any of that – just countering the headline’s implication that the reason this DOJ declined to investigate is because of Sessions and that it’s only this DOJ in particular that’s decided to not pursue it further.
