Discussion: DOJ Reportedly Told Ferguson Police Not To Release Robbery Video

Discussion for article #226511

submitted without commentary:

The words of Dr. Martin Luther King:
You deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham. But your statement, I am sorry to say, fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations. I am sure that none of you would want to rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with effects and does not grapple with underlying causes. It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place in Birmingham, but it is even more unfortunate that the cityā€™s white power structure left the Negro community with no alternative.

Really smart move, FPD, ticking off the Department that will be investigating you.

This police department just does not appear to see the community itā€™s charged with policingā€“except in an adversarial way.

Dumbass small-town macho cops, now panicking, trying to figure a way to put the lid back on what has obviously been very stupid and oppressive policing. I want the US Attorney General and the federal DOJ involved.

Iā€™m sure the DoJ is already investigating, albeit quietly, while the leads are hot.

So exactly what was the thought process that went through the mind of the Chief of Police? That Eric Holder, being black, wants to cover up for this thug at the expense of his officer ? Did he say, oh, no, weā€™re not gonna listen to the DOJ, weā€™re releasing the video so everyone can see this for what it is, part of the War on Whites that has taken place since Obama took office?? Because candidly, I canā€™t think of a rational explanation for ignoring DOJ advice in this matter, and we all know how well his defiance turned out.

The question now becomes, how much bias and incompetence will it take to remove this police chief from his position? A fish rots from the head. Weā€™ve seen this movie before.

The bunker mentality of Chief Jackson should come as no surprise.
Even after being relieved of situational command; he continues to believe his position is not somehow threatened by his actions.

It wouldnā€™t surprise me to find the mentality prevalent in the Ferguson PD to be entrenched in the PDs of the many burgs unincorporated in STL County proper.

These small townships are akin personal fiefdoms.

Having spent many months in and around the metro-StL area (St Louis, Olivette, Creve Coeur, Ballwin, Town & Country) between 2005-09-- I realized that there was a local police force in almost every township.
But with little overlapping capacity, as the STL county LEOs were relegated mostly to the state and interstate highways that ring and spoke through the city and county.

My business there entailed me to travel through many of these places daily-- and those I worked with would give me insights as to which police forces you didnā€™t dare look at crosseyed. I took care in those places-- and as such was selective as to where I frequented for meals and socializing.

Having been a creature of big cities gives me a certain sixth-sense of sorts in assessing urban areas, itsā€™ nightlife and potential for crime. But small-town small-mindedness is an unpredictable-- and mostly unaccountable aspect Iā€™ll avoid even moreso.

The police chief changed his story from originally claiming the robbery had nothing to do with the event and Brown was stopped because he was walking in the street. Since he became aware that everyone concluded that his release of the surveillance camera video was motivated by a desire to take the heat off his rogue cop, now heā€™s claiming that the officer stopped Brown because he thought he matched the description of the suspect in the convenience store robbery. Heā€™s radically changed his story. Brown may not have been the choir boy his parents wanted to believe he was, but Jackson is clearly a liar whoā€™s got no business in charge of people wielding guns and riding in armored vehicles.

After midnight, I would rather drive through downtown Houston speeding with the top down and windows open than drive through West U. doing the speed limit with hands at 10 and 2.

Having lived in St Louis City for over 20 years now, this strikes me as exactly right. Thereā€™s certainly a swagger to the cops in the small burgsā€“anecdotal from my speeding ticket encounters where 2 miles over the speed limit was treated as if I had robbed the nearest bank.

The county needs to take over all of these small burgs. And areas like Ferguson need to focus on voting in a black person as mayor so they can start providing proper governance instead of their apparent containment techniques.

This is so damned frustratingā€¦

Itā€™s likely shot through with those who believe that a black/white race war is imminent. Gun sales all over their county are up.

They deliberately want to taint the jury pool. They see the writing on the wall, because they had the relevant evidence first. Officer Wilson shot Michael Brown in the back. Multiple witnesses are saying that now. The police may be able to make up a BS justifications for shooting him 4 or 5 times from the front, but there is no way to justify shooting him in the back, even if there were no witnesses and there are witnesses.

Racism is their only out. They have to pack a jury with racists and convince them that Michael deserved to die.

I donā€™t think it will work here, or rather, it may work for a round but not for the whole match. The FBI is already looking at the case. This whole thing is embarrassing the USA on the world scale. So when he beats the case at the state level (and he will beat it, he county prosecutor will make sure of that) there will be federal charges already waiting. He wonā€™t beat those. Wilson is toast.

So jaywalking or stealing under $50 worth of goods is a capital crime now?

Good point.

This type of incident has happened not far from West U. as well.
An egregious event and outcome-- as Robbie Tolan had every right to be in his parentā€™s driveway.

I lived in Bellaire, TX (bordering the south side of West U.) during the period about 15-20 years ago, where it went from a rather friendly small town-- to gentrified and monied like West University.

But now? A place where my WASP, middle-aged visage is ā€˜acceptableā€™?
Iā€™ll drive miles out of my way just to avoid the police force there.
I just donā€™t trust that thereā€™s justice to be found in Bellaire.

Iā€™m with the Ferguson PD on this one. As long as the family keeps demanding ā€œthe truthā€ show the video of their 6ā€™4" 300 pound baby strong arming a 7/11 clerk.

So youā€™re siding with the overtly racist crowd?

Thanks for letting us see who you really are.

This is disturbing:

"Michael Brown shooting: Ku Klux Klan raises ā€˜rewardā€™ for officer who shot unarmed teen in Ferguson, Missouri "

Even more disturbing is that I have to go to a UK paper to find out about it.

Iā€™d really like to hear what the D of J has to say about this.
Iā€™m disinclined to believe anything the Ferguson PD has to say in this matter, as their motive to lie is rather strong, and their collective willingness to do whatā€™s right is so weak.
So we really need a more reliable narrative here about the investigation, even if it supports the FPDā€™s version. As such an alternative investigation would presumably come from the Feds, I wish theyā€™d speak up.

Just how bankrupt do you suppose the town is going to be after the dust settles?
