My suspicion is that Sessions is now in a trap, and he knows it. There is other evidence out there, probably in the presses hands or about to be, and definitely in the FBI/Muellerâs hands that shows Sessions had more meetings that the ones he originally didnât disclose. He knows its coming, and he knows if he releases his forms publicly without that on them, he is going to be nailed to the wall. But he canât amend the form for this FOIA request, because he hasnât actually filed an amended form with the government.
He doesnât want to file an amended form, I will assume, because he is unsure of which meetings he had that they are aware of. This has been the problem the Trumpers have been wrestling with from the get go, and why they have so actively been seeking to find out what warrants were outstanding and on who. Its not a matter of âwe had this one meeting on 6/9 and its really bad. Lets cover it upâ. Its more like âWe had some many damn secret meetings, I wonder which ones they know about? We need to find out so we can cover THOSE up and just not mention the others at allâ
As Josh has pointed out, heavy redactions may help Sessions win the news cycle, but you can bet Special Counsel Mueller has the nonredacted version. Thatâs ultimately all that counts.

Until we see what âheavy redactionsâ actually means, I am hesitant to speculate too deeply. But my gut feel is, I donât see how this wins him any news cycles. He turned it over, reluctantly and late. And any claim he makes to be avenged falls apart as soon as the next question is asked, which is"What was redacted and why?"
Agreed. And not just because of worries about what else is potentially already out there, but because its pretty clear that they are entering the âEvery Man For Himselfâ phase of things.
