Wrong strategy. Taking the 5th makes them look like they have something to hide. Refusing to reveal classified information makes them look patriotic, and, as an added bonus, puts the right-wingers into a bind.

There is likely enough evidence collectively held amongst these IC officers to fuck Trump and his family many times over. At some point, the administrationās vilification of them will be a bridge too far for one or more. At least I hope so. Duty to country has become so tied up with duty to the commander in chief over the past 20 years that such a leak would be an extraordinary leap. But this probe is the most extraordinary slap in the face to the IC that Iāve seen in the 35+ years that Iāve been following politics closely. I canāt actually think of any historical precedent, either.

If the people in the CIA were really smart, theyād start leaking any info they have on Trump, his family, and his most loyal defenders in the government. After all, it seems like the DOJ wants them to reveal classified material anyway. Why not just get ahead of the game?

The names of the CIA officers Barr is pursuing will be leaked by the weekend, and their careers will be destroyed just as the careers of Comey, etc. were destroyed. These witch hunts will never end until someone fights back. So far no one has shown any willingness to defend the country.
Which brings me to Lincoln and how he is misrepresented in the popular telling. Yes, he did feel a moral and patriotic obligation to preserve the union. But he didnāt do that by delivering speeches and writing letters. He did it by cycling through generals until he found Grant and Sherman. Lincoln wanted generals who would fight, who would burn Atlanta to the ground and who were willing to grind Lee, the slaveholder, and his army until both could fight no more. Mensheviks were the more moderate party and looked more favorably towards the peasant party. Bolsheviks were the majority and more extreme party. Menshevik means minority party and bolshevik means majority party, although they went back and forth in numbers until the Russian revolution.

Iād like to think the citizenry stays abreast of current events. However, the talking heads on the nightly news shows constantly caution your average person had damned little time or inclination to wade deep into much of anything, especially political gamesmanship between parties, or the litigating factions in these types of disputes. My initial reaction when I hear this is to scoff, but more and more Iām coming around to the reality it might be but 10% of the adult populace that invests the time and energy required to have a firm grasp and understanding of whatās going on.
You, I, everyone here reads and listens to almost everything. Weāre curious by nature. Weāre the exception. I can try to have a conversation about some of this stuff with people, and not only are they only vaguely versed in the basics, they couldnāt tell you who Paul Manafort, or Bill Barr, or Michael Flynn are with a gun to their head. Thatās how flimsy their knowledge base is.
We all expect some sort of universal outrage and demand for action every time Trump pulls some stunt like he did yesterday, admitting heād take Russian oppo intel on an opponent. $50 says half the adults in the country donāt even know he said it. That 10% I posited keep up with it all, guess what, weāre alone in this. Our base of allies is thin. Trump and the GOP knows that, and count on it.
