Discussion: DOJ Passes On Probing Kavanaugh Allegation, Says There's No 'Federal Crime'

I think old JeffBo is correct here… The investigation should be done by congress … the applicable charge is lying to congress

These people make me want to vomit.

They have no sense of decency.

But who does the background check on possible hires? Isn’t it always the FBI? If they bow out, who actually investigates?

Sessions could have–and would have–made precisely the same argument about lynching.

Sessions went on to note the FBI only investigates Legitimate rape.

There’s no slight irony in asserting that a rapist is the right man to overturn a woman’s fundamental right to determine what is done with her body and reproductive rights.

Crawling over broken glass and the worst is yet to come.

That’s BS - FBI investigates anything that could be used in the future to blackmail or influence. Same way they looked into the abuse claims of Whitehouse advisors.

Awesome! So let’s stop the nomination process until state and local authorities have had enough time to thoroughly investigate this matter. Given the fact it happened over thirty years ago, and it may be hard to track down all of the potential evidence and witnesses, we can expect to resume the nomination process sometime around January 21, 2021…

You are absolutely fucking right. And dont tell me that the FBI hasnt been asked to investigate and HAS investigated tons of decades old allegations that some Democrat appointee smoked pot in college, or attended an Anti Vietnam March, or volunteered for some US mainland support group for the anti government movement in El Salvador (CISPES had lots of members before and during the Reagan Admin), or to assist the people being attacked by the Contras in Nicaragua (there was a Nicaragua Support Project housed in the War Resister’s League building on Lafayette St in Lower Manhattan), or traveled to Cuba as part of a tour sponsored by the Puerto Rico Socialist Party (which tons of PR people did during the 70s) or US mainland lefty group. The FBI could have interviewed Kavanaugh and Mark Judge. Could have gotten names of the teenagers whose parents owned the house in Maryland where the party occurred. Could have gotten names of other teenagers who were there and interviewed them, because I am sure the incident might have been noticed by someone who heard the music being cranked up.

Jeff Sessions has been worked so hard by Trump that he is like one of those whipped Rookie Umpires who, by the late innings, is gonna absolutely refrain from pissing off Earl Weaver. But FBI background checks most certainly have traditionally NOT dealt only with Federal Crimes. And the Senate Judiciary Committee does not have the resources to investigate this the way the FBI can and has most certainly done on NUMEROUS occasions. I bet you at Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III’s request of some Democrat appointee. I would bet the farm on it (if I owned a farm, figure of speech).

It’s called a background investigation, you mutant little weenie.

It’s a background investigation, which the FBI is supposed to conduct.

From what the said on MSNBC last night the only way the FBI could further investigate is for the White House to request it. The original background check was done (and closed) at the request of the White House, they’re the only ones that can reopen the investigation.

Exactly this. It’s not about federal offenses, it’s about national security, vulnerability to coercion, and veracity and responsibility. The DoJ statement is transparently self-contradictory.

I guess you could argue that there’s no influence risk, because once Kavanaugh is on the court you could prove he was a serial rapist and murderer and he would still skate.

This was from an article yesterday:

The allegation is corroborated, both with detailed notes from Ford’s therapy session years ago and with a passed polygraph test administered by the FBI.
WH To Attack Kavanaugh Accuser’s Credibility By Questioning Why She Didn’t Tell Anyone At The Time - TPM – Talking Points Memo

Seems the FBI is involved already.

Perjury and lying to the federal government are both crimes that could land a person in some serious legal trouble. If convicted of either crime, a person could be looking at up to five years in prison. This means that if a person is found to have lied during a congressional hearing or investigation, or simply lied to an FBI or other federal agent, actual jail time could result. https://blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2017/03/what-are-the-penalties-for-lying-to-congress.html

Ron Luciano, where are you when we need you most?

Earl Weaver to patient, indulging umpire- “You know what you’re here for? You’re here to fuck us!” I don’t know if it was Ron Luciano. It was another Italian surnamed umpire, because Luciano was the show boat who would do a called third strike routine that renders contemporary NFL end zone or touch down pass celebration synchronized dancing somewhat modest and unimpressive.

Rings a bell. Luciano wrote a couple of funny books. He wrote a chapter about his run ins w Weaver (I believe it is in “Fall of the Roman Umpire”. Laugh out loud funny. Said he threw him out of both games of a doubleheader, another time when Weaver had an attitude when handing in the line-up card before the first inning.
