Discussion: District Judge Quotes Samuel Alito To Argue Against Alabama Abortion Restriction

Discussion for article #239436

I realize that this particular ruling is unlikely to get wide exposure, but “Bravo” to this judge for using Alito’s own words to expose the hypocrisy of the right.

A glimmer of sanity in the South. Forced birthers will be screaming.

Did Alito’s wife ever recover from his “brutal” confirmation hearings?

I hope he dropped the mic after quoting Alito.

It would mean more of the right understood the concept of hypocrisy.

Cognitive dissonance, the lifeblood of the right…

This judge has obvously forgotten the absolutely clear distinction between terrorists and freedom fighters.

Can we get this man on the short list for the next vacancy on the Supreme Court? He’s written a reasoned, well-thought out and impartial decision. Of course, to the Rethugs, that would all disqualify him. Bravo, Judge Thompson!

And using sammy’s argument for keeping this clinic open, is icing on the cake!

Thus the conservative desire to appoint more conservative judges who will rule in favor of the Religious and Conservative Right, rather than follow the law. Thank the heavens and stars for this judge.

Pretty sure Myron Thompson is the judge who got Roy’s Rock moved out of the Judiciary Building in Montgomery.

despite claims on the contrary that admitting privileges were to protect the health of abortion patients.

That such a despicably transparent lie can make its way into serious deliberative documents shows how low the pro-fetus lobby has sunk. They have given up all forms of integrity and honesty in order to protect fetuses and fertilized ova, while snubbing the fully formed humans that derive from them.

Loving ‘opinions coming back to bite’ the SupremeCorp Justices…

Well, he’s 67, which is a tad old … though rather young when you remember Carter nominated him in 1980.

Separately, I would add that his usage is clever and overall pretty sound. Plus, it has the added force that choosing an abortion is a constitutional right, which is that much more important than a state’s for now legitimate power – which only some provide prosecutors and juries/judges the ability to apply – to execute people.

Alito will tell us his was a very narrow ruling only to be applied to the lethal injection case in 3…2…1…
He reserves the right to twist himself into a pretzel using whatever argument that seems to fit in a particular circumstance.

Alito; “But my words were meant to allow the killing of people, not fetuses.”
Thompson; “You hold the belief that fetuses ARE people.”
Alito; “But-but-but-sputter.”

Bingo!

DING DING DING DING…Give that man a cupie doll! A superb and well thought out rebuttal to this nonsense from the forced birthers! I find it absurd that this line of attack has gotten as far as it has…the whole admitting privileges nonsense. It is a clear attack on civil rights not unlike Jim Crow laws which were put in place specifically to thwart a citizens rights under the law. Don’t believe in abortion… DON"T HAVE ONE!
