Trump got what he wanted, undivided attention from the world. For a couple weeks leading up to the 12th he was the center of attention for a new reason, something fresher and more fraught with drama and peril than all the other previous reasons that had gone stale. Now it’s on to the next thing. The summit rush will wear off in a day and some new histrionics will need concocted to draw in viewers and feed the perpetually empty void where his soul has gone missing.

I think it’s adorable that any of these experts think that any promise Trump made to Kim is worth more than the anus-mouth it issued out of.

The optics are terrible for the United States, and that’s basically all that happened.

De-nuclearization will be as easy as building the wall.

The impeachment trial should do…

What makes this agreement great for America and the Iranian deal totally bad is this nothing burger was worked out by a white guy, and the Iranian deal came from a black guy. The fact that the Iranian deal has substance and the Korean deal does not is totally beside the main racist point of the tribal Trump supporters.

#FAKE NEWS. EXPERTS KNOW NOTHING. THIS IS BIGGER THAN REAGAN AND GORBECHEV IN RAJKOVIC. BIASED MSM TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME. HE COULD CURE CANCER AND YOU’D COMPLAIN. KIM IS PERSONALLY DISMANTLING THE FIRST MISSILE HIMSELF WITH CHOP STICKS AS WE SPEAK JUST TO SHOW TRUMP HE MEANS IT AND HAS BEEN RENDERED PROPERLY OBEISANT.

sigh…

“The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new US-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.”

It sounded more impressive when Neville Chamberlain said it.

The value to Little Rocket Man of a photo op with the “leader of the free world”? Incalculable.

The cost to Little Rocket Man? Nothing.

The World’s Greatest Negotiator’s job is done here.

I still hold out hope for greater stability on the peninsula, and won’t begrudge Trump credit IF he can get it done, but I suspect the summit has more to do with the recent collapse of NK’s nuclear test facility and the not so recent starvation of its people than anything DJT has done.

I imagine Jared and Ivanka will be buying up prime beachfront property on the North Korean coast.

Julian Borger tweeted “Trump says the US will stop joint military exercises with South Korea, saying it will save ‘a tremendous amount of money.’” Great! Now Trump can use that money to pay for his huge, beautiful military parade down Pennsylvania Avenue!

Must be fake facts based news written from actually reading the signed document. Why you ask?

Trump spoke before cameras and described the agreement as “comprehensive”. That means it had to be more thorough then say an offer on a listed golf course condo doesn’t? I mean isn’t everything in the world a golf course condo with teenage girls and illegal workers as slaves…you know, like Mar-a-Lago.

Boy are Americans among the dumbest people in the world to believe anything that spews from Trump’s mouth…the guy is perpetual lying machine.

Yeah, that’s a pretty good encapsulation of the general consensus of his supporters. I don’t imagine any hearts or minds will be changed to the contrary. In fact, I can see where some that might’ve been sitting on the fence might be swayed with ‘hmmmm, maybe this guy is alright…’

Watch for the approval ratings to increase in the next couple of weeks or a month.

. . . A cheap uptic in his poll numbers, a very self-satisfying illusion of success (Winning!!!), and some meaningless s**t to throw out there to his base in 2020.

The serious follow-on to actually accomplish anything (which requires real work and sustained attention) will be absolute zero.

Something Democrats and I would say most liberals in general seem to fundamentally not understand (but need too!) is that most people in this country are not political junkies. Most people (especially Trumps infamous base) do not sit around all day reading the news. They don’t have jobs at computers. They go home tired and have stuff to do other than reading a newspaper, watching the news shows, reading TPM or the comment section on r/politics. The reality is most people consume their news in headline form, and this is a headline victory for Trump.

For most people if they hear any news story that day it’s a nightly news broadcast in the background or see a headline online when they hop on facebook or whatever. This is the world conservatives and Trump in particular thrive in. They know how to create a headline that gets their message across to voters who don’t care too much about politics but still vote. They know how to message to voters who will only hear a nightly news story that gives both sides equal time. The reality is that all most people will hear about this is the open to a news story that starts off with Lester Holt or some network person saying ‘After historic summit president Trump and Kim Jong Un declares peace’ and then they will go back to concentrating on their screaming kid or doing the dishes or whatever. All they heard about the G7 was a headline or news intro that said ‘so and so says Canada stabbed us in the back’. This is why he was so effective during the campaign, and conservative politicians in general at getting their message out.

You can decry this all you want and toss blame around. You can rightfully blame the media in how they report things as the main culprit. You can say these voters need to be more informed, it’s their fault, or whatever. But that doesn’t change the reality of how things are and why Trumps political theater works so effectively. This stupid publicity stunt will be a “win” for Trump even if nothing of substance ever happens because the ‘of substance’ doesn’t garner the headlines.
