Actually, there is a chance, in the very short term, that bad actors may take pause for a little bit. Remember, when Dubya (I refuse to get wistful, I refuse to get) invaded Iraq in '03 because “9/11”), a move in tactical terms equivalent to FDR declaring war on Mexico because “Pearl Harbor!!!”, it did provoke Moammar into giving up his WMD programs, complete with UN monitors.
But I agree entirely that this impulsive, contradictory-ness is dangerous. Trump has been a neo-mercantilist opportunist with few fixed values other than “What’s in it for me” his entire life, and bragged on the campaign trail that his unpredictability was among his greatest strengths. His antipathy to the post-WW2 liberal world order is undoubtedly reinforced by Bannon, but it predates Bannon. I shudder whenever I remember his credulous questions about why the US hadn’t used nukes since 1945.
At least he seems to have outraged the alt-right…

I hear you both and I believe Trump will play cock of the walk from this point forward. But I also believe that, at the outset, this decision scared him shitless. He’s a bully and bullies never have real stones. @feathered_head as well.
And as always, suffers, in so very many ways, by the comparison…

Does that world include the UK, whose secret service Trump has accused of spying on him? Or Germany, who Trump has accused of being a NATO deadbeat and moocher, and who exploits the EU to enrich itself? Does that world include Australia, the prime minster of which Trump hung up on?
And will this world unite behind a military solution to Assad – which will only exacerbate the refugee problem – rather than a political solution, which the threadbare State Department seems unable to produce?

Sadly it apparently does.
It is possible this missile attack to avenge the horrific use of chemical weapons was a brazen and cruel geopolitical stagecraft by Preshitident Trump, Mike Pence and Paul Ryan working with Putin and Russian intelligence to create smokescreen for their mutually beneficial treasonous and criminal activities. We will know this if: i) there is no effort by Preshitident Trump to get Congressional authorization and, ii) there is no Syria ground war in the next two weeks to neutralize the immediate national security threats posed by Assad, ISIS and other Wahabbi sunni terrorist groups in Syria.
Trump, Pence and Ryan are desperate to create distraction a from their treasonous crimes involving compromise of American democracy and national security by working as moles for Putin and Russian intelligence. They went out of their way to reveal their plans for attacking Syria to Russia intelligence.

Yeah. Looks like this is an excuse for them to unhitch from an obviously failed president. White nationalists didn’t choose Trump cause they thought he wouldn’t attack a Muslim nation.
Putin has allied himself with the Russian Orthodox Church and consequently gets support from those elements of the right in the U.S. that are aligned with that church.

Before the air strikes, all the media was talking about was the chaos surround the Drumpf administration, how much Kushner hates Bannon, how nothing of meaning has been accomplished to date, how much of a Drumpf failure the failed healthcare bill was, how the Russian connection was getting closer and closer, how the Moslem ban didn’t work, etc…
