Discussion: Dick Cheney's Next Book Will Attack President Obama

Discussion for article #235088

Cheney’s “Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America” will be published on Sept. 1 by Threshold Editions, the publisher announced Tuesday. The book, co-authored by Cheney’s daughter Liz Cheney, contends that Obama has abandoned a decades-long tradition of American global leadership.

As an example of “global leadership” Cheney ought to go on a World Tour press junket to promote this new book. Show Obama how the rest of the world treats a “real” American leader. Perhaps starting in the Netherlands?

And there will be thunderstorms in Tucson this August.

Edit. Oh the hell with it. Fuck this monumentally arrogant and self-serving bag of sewer gas!

Our problem with dick cheney is that we didn’t realize–until too late–that he was a paranoid schizophrenic.

Cheney’s book is reportedly even more scathing in the original German.

Well of course it’s going to attack President Obama, it’s Dick Cheney, that’s kind of his job.

Did anyone think he would write a book about hunting safety?

Then again, maybe a kitten cook book, I could see him doing that.

I hear he has a killer recipe for braised baby kitten in unicorn blood with a side of coleslaw made from children’s wishes and the tears of orphans.

Now there’s a fuckin surprise. In other news, the sun sets in the west, the moon isn’t really made of cheese, and cows can’t really jump over it.

Although he’s currently somewhat out of fashion and has recently been quite unjustly tarred as somehow having some connection to neoconservatism, the political scientist Hans Morganthau, one of the leading exponents of the “realist” school of international relations, defined “power” in the international sphere as simply the ability to make another nation do things it wouldn’t otherwise do. And that’s all it is.

The ash heap of history is filled with idiots who believed there is no form of power other than raw military power because it’s a belief that invariably leads to debacle and disaster. Soft power is literally invisible to people like Cheney. To them, the idea that the cultivation of friendship and esteem and the development of cultural affinity are profound sources of power is hippy nonsense put forward by cowards without the Will to Power. That’s why they so readily, and even gleefully, shit on the enormous outpouring of international sympathy and good will that we received after the 9/11 attacks. That outpouring was the result of decades of good will carefully cultivated and banked by presidents going back to FDR. It was that reservoir that caused other nations to overlook our frequent hypocrisy, the thing that caused them to believe that, except for the targets of it, American hypocrisy was, on the whole, a rather wholesome and benign phenomenon. It was a belief that America had a moral right to set moral standards for other nations even when we failed to abide by them ourselves as long as we weren’t open and ostentatious about it.

It was a fortune that George W. Bush, under the tutelage of the PNAC sociopaths like Cheney, squandered. Just as he squandered the fortune of his birth, his opportunity to obtain a superlative education, the fortune of OPM he pissed away at Harkin. And as with all of the other fortunes he squandered, he did so not because he didn’t value them, but because he was incapable of understanding the very concept of “value.”

Of course this vile awful horrible man doesn’t see us leading and doesn’t perceive how much of the power he shat away Obama has, almost miraculously, been able to recover. Much of the damage Cheney did is irreparable while more of it will take at least as long to repair as the Vietnam War did. But Cheney’s mindset about how to conduct foreign policy is basically the same as a serial date rapists’ mindset about how to get a woman to have sex with him.
