Discussion: Diane Ravitch: People Only Listen To Campbell Brown 'Because Of Her Looks'

Discussion for article #225137

Campbell Brown is a blithering idiot, but this is orthogonal to her looks.

Shame on Ravitch, of whom I am generally a big fan, for bring up looks.

“I criticism Campbell Brown for her attacks on…”

…the English language?

Oh wait…

Sometimes I suspect Ravitch is just another rat-f***er trying to discredit teacher unions and their progressive allies from within.

I understand that’s a crazy thing to say, but it’s not any crazier than taking to twitter to claim Campbell Brown has no arguments or logic.

(Seriously, can serious analysts and activists just get off twitter once and for all? It makes everyone look like a moron…)

Shouldn’t this story have a puicture of Diane Ravitch?

Just to make it very clear for those unable to follow logic.

CB’s arguments make no sense, she knows nothing about the issue, and she is fronting for profiteers. So, why is she there?

Because she looks pretty good is the only logical answer.

When you go to an industrial show, there are a lot of women there pimping products they know nothing about. But the women are hot. That’s why they get hired.

Why is it wrong to call CB out on this? Because that is what she is using her looks to sell an highly dubious product.

When oh when will the buttugly people of America rise up and take the news anchor jobs they are so unfairly deprived of?

Calling Cambell Brown a journalist is a stretch. A teleprompter reader…sure. Television personality…ok. Corporate shill…certainly. Not a journalist. She was a shill for Corporate America then, I’m sure she’s one now.

Why didn’t she just say, “Campbell Brown, you’re no Sarah Palin”? So we could all have a real good laugh.

How about those unattractive women on Faux News?

Oh, wait…

Campbell Brown is married to that Bush toady, Dan Senor.
I wouldn’t trust her viewpoints about education or much of anything, except maybe grifting.

Yeah, bad move. Leave her looks out of it.

Jon Chait had a good piece on this yesterday, showing how Ravitch’s comments are not only offensive, but wrong. I mean, why do teachers go solely by seniority when some of the older teachers are the worst? Not that there are any perfect answers to this, but the current system is terrible. And as much as I support public education, our system totally needs an overhaul and hate that I’m supposed to be trapped into supporting conservatives who want to destroy public education and liberals who imagine the status quo is somehow acceptable. Because I support neither position, as we need public education but our current system is a failure.

And beyond that, if the best you’ve got is to argue against the individual making a claim, rather than the claim itself…you’re doing it wrong. I mean, that’s only one of the most well known of fallacies right there, yet people can’t seem to help but do it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Brown looks good and speaks well because of her former career with NBC News.

But she’s married to Dan Senor—one of the stupidest neo-cons from the Bush administration, bar none—who was instrumental is fucking up Iraq after the invasion.

They share a political outlook, and that makes her credibility drop by about 90%.

She is, as Ravitch said, ignorant about the teaching profession and the complexities of hiring, firing, nurturing, or promoting teachers.

Like most of the far right, Brown blames tenure and unions for the sad state of affairs in US public education—proof positive that she is utterly clueless and bound to remain so.

I totally disagree. It works quite well, or has, in many places. Funding is becoming an ever bigger problem for many districts. That means cuts to staff and programs, especially those that address specific educational needs.

And of course, crap like “No Child Left Behind.”

Also, how about putting some of the responsibility on parents, because without their support for schools and teachers and a willingness to help their children succeed, you’re not going to see positive results.

kinda have mixed feelings -

I find it to be incredibly lame & a bit of stereotyping to say that the only reason that Campbell Brown gets any attention is because she is attractive.

Then I think of the number of times that have I concluded (with absolute certainty) that the only reason that the incredibly vapid & insipid Scott Brown has been able to have any sort of political career is because of his charismatic & photogenic appearance.
