This is likely to pale into insignificance in the aftermath of this hurricane’s destruction and FEMA’s bumbling response, unfortunately. And when raised, it will be vociferously defended as perfectly legal (which Merkley seemed to indicate was the case). President* Shit-for-brains thinks everything is under control, and “we’re absolutely prepared”. Un-huh. And, by the way, this hurricane is a hoax. Many people are saying…

Next step: use FEMA as part of the enforcement arm. Send teams around shelters asking people for their passports and birth certificates.

Surprised this admin. didn’t come up with the idea of detaining the immigrants on the Carolina coast and kill two birds with one stone - quite literally.

I know it’s snark
But unfortunately I wouldn’t say it’s not within the realm of possibility.
One thing this administration has taught me is that I suffer from lack of imagination.
I could never have imagined it could be this bad and yet I am still surprised at the sheer audacity of the assault on democracy.
You can almost hear them saying ,“You’re not a citizen , why should we help you? You should have stayed in your own country”

Because that is what the GOP does, take money that is designated to help people and transfer to a program designated to hurt people.

All perfectly legal and Constitutional. Nobody is going to go to jail for kidnapping kids and putting them in concentration camps.

Nothing anyone can do.

They reported on this in Houston, that undocumented immigrants would not ask for anything because they were afraid of deportation. And now with the crack down on any legal immigrant getting gov’t assistance I’m sure that will be on the minds of those in the current path of the storm.

ICE is also consulting with FEMA whether the Gulf Coast or Tornado Alley would be a better place to build concentration camps for children.

Flora-Bama watch your back!

Any organization’s priorities can be seen through its budget. Heard on a podcast that ICE has had more money annually in the past few years than all of the intelligence services combined. And now we’ve added this money to the detriment of millions of others who will need help from this important source, often the only source of disaster funds.

I think that they are concerned that Florence is going to blow a whole bunch of brown-skinned immigrants onto the east coast. They’ll need this money to detain and deport them, as well as to separate them from their children.

No problem. He’ll just order the Treasury Department to print more money.

ICE goes to courthouses to snag the undocumented who are trying to become documented. Easy pickings.

From the article: ‘A DHS spokesperson told Maddow that the funds did not come from any “disaster response or recovery efforts”’

So…preparedness or mitigation funds then. What else is there? Unless that’s payroll savings from all the positions they haven’t filled.

This is like a domestic version of Iran-Contra. Thanks to Jeff Merkley for releasing this information. He consistently works for the good of the people.
