Discussion: DHS Sec: Trump To Deploy National Guard To Border 'Immediately'

But what about the bigly Donnie Dotard military parade? Will that be on the border now if that’s where all the troops will be?

This is another example of Trump jacking with folks to get a political point. The national Guard is composed of citizen soldiers most of which hold regular civilian jobs. If you deploy them you force them away from those jobs and their families. Many employers will pay the Guardsman while he or she is gone but some don’t. It’s a huge hassle to be deployed.

What state’s National Guardsmen will have the honor of being pulled away from their families and their jobs to protect us from a trickle of impoverished brown people? I’m sure they will be delighted.

While I think this is an excellent idea, the NG’s should be commissioned as Federal Law Enforcement Officers, like many Coast Guardsmen, with arrest powers. The idea of “support troops” means standing around doing nothing, as opposed to actively interdicting illeagals. Sad.

Security theater at its finest…this will make all the conservative papers and Sinclair broadcasts. It gives the impression troops are at the border, ready to lay down machine gun fire on the invading hordes. When it turns out it’s a couple hundred soldiers who are just there to assist the Border Patrol with some logistical stuff that will get buried. It’s all just posturing to try to get Republicans out to vote in November, nothing more.

This is still America. Come back in 10 years and suggest that again. It might fly.

They will be there solely to prevent deployment of Hillary’s taco truck invasion force.

What a complete shit-show. Another insanely expensive, pointless exercise announced by Herr Drumpf with absolutely no planning or consideration of the costs or consequences. The man-baby strikes again.

She did not disclose how many troops would be sent, nor the cost of the endeavor, but asserted that they would be deployed “immediately.”

“Spanish speakers on our border! Latino women and children! Brown people frightening Fox viewers! We must do something about this immediately! Immediately! Immediately! Harrumph! Harrumph! Harrumph!”

(“Hey, I didn’t get a ‘harrumph’ out of that guy!”)

I’d be more nervous about the Canadian border.

It’s the quickest overland route for the inevitable Donnie orchestrated Russian invasion, now that Putin has Donnie putting the troops at the other end of the country.

Bullshit. You going to pay for it?

And that word “illeagals” [sic] is a racist dog-whistle.

Yeah, what’s up with that? I STILL don’t have a taco truck on my corner… Still gotta go a couple blocks over to find one. Sad!

Didn’t we go down this rat hole with both Bush Jr. and Obama? Didn’t they both discover that the National Guard was more trouble in this setting than it was worth? We just spent a lot of money for NG units sitting around watching. After a few months they were sent home.

I’d say the odds-on favorites are Illinois, California, and New York. Because let’s face it — Trump really IS that much of a petty asshole and man-baby.

Is the National Guard under control of each state? Could e.g. California refuse placing troops by “their” border?

National Guard troops will have to bone up on their “Look the other way” training.

The President could and probably just has nationalized them. They won’t really have anything to do. It is a giant waste of our money.

This is definitely under the category “been there, done that, have the t-shirt.”

I have some friends who do volunteer work at a bird sanctuary up in Ft. Collins, but they don’t interdict ill eagles they take care of them.

My town’s been completely overrun and conquered, so we have buildings everywhere to buy tacos in. Delicious, cheap tacos. Also burritos, fajitas, chimichangas you could weep with joy over, everything. I don’t want my country back. I just want to eat real Mexican food. Just tell those National Guard folks go home, the war is over, and thank God we lost.

The Sonora desert is vast, and on the US side very barren, due to the diversion of water from the area to other places and uses. How many men and women side by side would it take to cover the entire border from the Pacific to Texas? It’s unbelievably ridiculous.
