So this is how the AP is wired for republicans. An editor could just as easily have headlined this as Democrats Propose Nationwide Funding for Teachers, but that would be “partisan”.
Unfortunate when education is actually our biggest long term national security issue. Very stupid.
Eff you, DeVos. Just eff you.
Well I’m sure she’s also offering “thoughts and prayers.” And she has learned her some lingo so there’s that milestone she’s passed.
DeVos is a Christian Reconstructionist. She doesn’t believe that the US should have a system of public education. So, if teachers are being ill-treated by the tax code, that’s just fine with her since they/we are illegitimate.
Her views are abhorrent, but she runs with a very ugly crowd. Public educators, students and parents and guardians will be eating their dirt for at least 4 years…probably longer because DeVos inflicting real harm on public schools.
Real harm is the motto of this administration.
Sorry if I offend anyone, but I couldn’t help noticing the creepy resemblance:

Lily Eskelsen Garcia, the head of the National Education Association, the largest teachers’ union, said many teachers were forced to work several jobs in order to make ends meet.
DeVos: “That’s exactly the kind of can-do spirit that I love about our teachers. They are so resourceful and so good at finding solutions to problems. We need them to teach that to our children.”
Ugh, I have sat through too many teacher negotiations to ever believe this. My own district, a notorious underpayer/overworker (teachers make thousands less than the district next door despite high performance) constantly says, “we recognize that teachers need to get paid more. Here’s $200, does that work? We can’t afford more, though, times are tough. But teachers really do need to make more.” The standard refrain of “the economic forecast is bleak” actually causes giggles among our staff now. Pure BS.
Two points: 1) teachers should be paid more; the budget cuts were necessary - which is it DeVoss? 2) lead by example De Voss, donate your tax cut windfall to public schools in your home state of Michigan.
At a congressional hearing Tuesday, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos agreed that teachers are underpaid, and suggested that they could use some of their free time to sell pencils or apples on a corner or that they could try to make up the difference through Go-Fund-Me.
I wish it were funny and not real.
DeVos crocodile tears aren’t gonna change the fact that educators (such as myself) have spent 20+ years on the receiving end of a delegitimizing campaign sponsored by the secretary’s friends on the right.
I hope an pray she ends up hanging in a slaughterhouse alongside her Husband and Brother.
Uh, excuse me.
You’re talking about my money. Not yours, conservatives.
You know, she has ZERO experience in teaching. None whatsoever. She is nothing but a ideologue and a blowhard. She has no f-ing idea what she is talking about.
What a sham.
Every agency head doing what rethugs elected them to do.
But hrc would have been so much worse. /s
She was approved by congress becus she and the rest of the t* agency heads are following the norquist edict, and are required to not have a clue
We we will be eating the t* dirt because of his agency heads, who will all last til jan 2021, for many, many yrs to come. Just the way rethugs and russia planned it.
Oh well, no third party/nonvoters have kids in public schools anyway, or will need clean air/water./ s
It’s the eyes. They all have the crazy eyes.
