Discussion for article #241764
Contributing to the “haziness” is the fact that Bennie’s not finished embellishing the story. Believable fiction is hard to write.
It blows my mind that he told this story in the first place. A man poked a gun in his ribs, and he directed the man to to the correct person to rob. That is not heroic or smart behavior, that is the action of a craven coward. Hey, man, he’s got the money, go point your gun at him.
a French fry run
!!! French fries??? Is he shitting me? You know that MFer went for chicken and greens…
Some recommended reading, Doctor:
He keeps on feeding in to my theory he has early onset dementia and/or Alzheimers.
I was held up leaving my business 25 years ago, I was maced, and I remember every second of what happened
And you know what, it’s not a terrible thing that he wasn’t heroic or smart in that situation. It’s a traumatic situation, and unless you’ve been trained there is no way to predict how you would handle it. Even if you handle it poorly, it’s not an indictment of your character.
The problem with Carson’s story is that it is the exact opposite of how he said the Oregon victims should have handled the situation. Saying that they should have done stuff differently was terrible in the first place. That itself should have disqualified from having any public coverage of his opinions going forward, because it displayed a shocking lack of empathy, and complete detachment from reality. But to follow that up with a story where you were in a similar situation, and were moronically selfish is just amazing.
Unless and until the robber comes forward to confirm this fairly implausible story, I say it’s a confabulation. It’s tough-guy cool talk from a grade B movie.
And then, apparently, run away without reporting to the cops.
Real helpful attitude you got there, Ben.
PS: Could he be charged with aiding and abetting the robbery?
Carson said he did not file a police report but thought a restaurant employee did in another SiriusXM interview.
Suuuure, because filing a police report can be traced back, and because that shit never happened. Everyone already knows, his gun anecdote was just another bullshit flourish and an absurd embellishment from the good doctor’s crazed musings.
Armstrong Williams, the business manager for Carson’s campaign…
Hahaha…Say no more.
Actually, I don’t doubt for a second that he was there for french fries. Dude has done everything he can all of his life to set himself apart and above “them” because he feels he’s their better…all while internalizing and incorporating the negative stereotypes into his belief systems, with the convenient little caveat that such gross overgeneralizations simply don’t apply to him due to his otherworldly uniqueness and special-tude. Showing up at Popeye’s for fried chicken would entirely betray that self-delusion.
He’s that black conservative wonderkind’s future self.
This cannot be said loudly enough. The man betrays his avowed code of muscular confrontation when dealing with bad guys holding guns by telling this story. It’s pretty amazing that he and his supporters don’t even comprehend how gutless this makes him look. That in itself has to make you wonder.
That was kind of my point. He claimed that a bunch of traumatized kids should have rushed a gunman, and when he was in the same situation he behaved in a manner that was definitely non-heroic. And seemed to think that his action was pretty smart.
Personally, I doubt this incident ever happened.
Amnestic symptoms are usually mostly anterograde for those disorders, not retrograde.

Yes. 29 years ago someone attempted to carjack me–put a gun to my head. I wish I could forget the details of that night, but I can’t.
French surrender monkey fries. It’s what’s for dinner when you want to enable criminals holding up fast food joints.
Right. I forgot. (snicker!) Maybe I’m dain bramaged?
Carson: Its hazy because I dont recall whether it was a dream or it really happened. Regardless, my response to the shooter was just right.
