Discussion: Despite Strong Economy, Trump Will Address Lawmakers From Weak Position

Last thing first, why is Melania FLOTUS such weak sauce? I wonder how many parents and siblings we could get that have had their lives changed forever by their child or sibling’s death at the hands of home born and raised white shooter? Would it be bigger than Trump’s inauguration crowd?

The parents of kids killed by American gang members or white supremacists were all busy, or did they turn down the offer?

Yeah really, how many gang mass shootings have there been during Donald’s reign, er I mean time as “president”, vs mass killing by white guy shooters!

These really seems like a fucking bizarre folks for guests.

They are perfectly natural if you are playing to a base ginned up on Fox News and right wing media reports that Hispanic gangs gave become the nation’s scourge, especially if you want to block brown and black people immigrating to America because you are told brown and black people vote Democratic.

President Donald Trump will herald a robust economy and push for bipartisan congressional action on immigration in Tuesday’s State of the Union address, as he seeks to rally a deeply divided nation and boost his own sagging standing with Americans.

Let me edit this opening paragraph for political accuracy.

  1. No, he won’t herald a robust economy. He will seek to take personal credit for the robust economy he has inherited from the previous administration, which the GOP has not improved after a year.

  2. No, he won’t push for bipartisan congressional action on immigration. He will push Democrats to accept the Republican immigration plan, which seeks to turn upside down the foundational ethos of the United States as a nation of immigrants and to replace it with a policy of limited admission favoring the rich, the Christian, and the white and disfavoring the non-white, the poor, and the non-Christian.

  3. No, he won’t seek to rally a deeply divided nation. He will seek to rally his base. He will expressly antagonize other Americans.

No offense intended to Julie Pace, but the boilerplate presumption of reasonable good faith cannot be the starting point for a description of a SOTU delivered by the most mendacious, ignorant president this country has had in over a century.

The last two days the stock market has been headed down. Since the stock market is the only economic indicator Trump cares about how is he going to claim the economy is strong?

Much of our country has made a Faustian bargain, trading potential long-term misery for immediate benefits, leaving children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to bear the costs of the decision.

He won’t talk about any of these nor of anything meaningful. Infrastructure? Nah. Wall? Oh yeah. Campaign promise to Carrier of IN to stop their jobs from going to Mexico which has just happened throwing about 500 disenchanted people of work? Nah. Almost guaranteed, however, is that some talking head will again reinstate the prez is looking presidential nonsense after having read a teleprompter and will excuse his going off script to rant about HRC…

Somebody will have to brief me tomorrow.

The common political characterizations of the Americans is that they are “hard-working”, “friendly”, “give their hearts”, and “happy.” Trump typically blurs these already-vague distinctions to “we,” “the best”, “win”, “strong”, “smart”, and their antonyms applied to “they”, “stupid”, “moron”, “loser”, “corrupt”, and “politically correct.” A black-and-white universe. By calling the economy “strong”, and Trump “weak” plays into this game. Debt-to-GDP is an astronomical 330%. The dollar has lost 20% of its value over the past year. Wages are flat. Housing and university are unaffordable and healthcare expensive. Moreover, the US is turning into a kleptocracy and Trump is a kleptocrat. How is that a weak position? If this was Sweden, for example, we would have had a general strike and been done with this a long time ago.

Fairly humorous tune

I was just talking with a friend and accidentally, or perhaps not so accidentally, referred to the SOTU as the STFU. It just rolled right on out…

Ugh, there was a Heritage Foundation hack writing in the NYT the other day about how we should give Trump credit for the economy. He praised the retraction of “arbitrary” regulations. I despise the right-wing attack on regulations. Sure, there may be some that don’t make any sense, but most of them DO, and most of them exist because someone tried to game the system or did major damage one way or another. And Wall Street’s confidence in Trump and Republican policies is a bit of idiocy in itself.

Trump Will Address Lawmakers From Weak Position

According to Stormy Daniels, it’s the same weak position from which Chiselin’ Trump “addressed” her.
