Trump’s entire strategy is division. To divide whites from PoC, immigrants from native-born, rich from poor, men from women, blue states from red states. As such, it’s impossible for him to unite the country or to speak as the leader of the entire nation. That’s the choice he’s made.

That’s not his calling card and he knows it. Either he whips up the hate or he is nothing and he’s got nothing for those economically anxious people he has attracted.
At first I was going to criticize the AP because the tone of this story is all over the place. “Unsparing denunciation of anti-Semitism” along with “jokes about having a bad hair day.” But it’s not the AP’s fault. It’s Trump whose tone was all over the place. It’s his forced hostage video reading of some staffer’s words off the prompter against his true feelings that he just wants to enjoy the adoration of his acolytes at his rallies and is pissed at having to act like he cares about anything else. He is an awful excuse for a human being, much less a president.
