I grew up with guns. Not a lot of guns, but they were there. Some of my favorite memories from my youth was going out in the woods with my brothers plinking old cans and bottles with Dad’s old 22 single shot bolt action. It was fun.
These people are nuts. They are fanatical about guns. For all the wrong reasons.
Because, let’s face it, who can say no to someone holding a gun?
I believe the Parkland Kids won’t give up, but instead will see how lockstep the GOP is with the NRA and down with the 'Guns are more important than individual lives!" fanatacism. They won’t vote against GOP candidates because of their families views or other influential adults telling them to vote for the democratic candidate or vote for the GOP - they have had to grow up tragically fast - and can see for themselves the callous disregard the politicians have for their (the kids) voices and lives. And they, via social media, are pulling their generation with them through this experience.
The oldest among them will be able to vote this fall. And they will.
And in the next elections, and the next elections. And - many of them will be able to vote in the 2020 election. And they will.
Did anyone expect anything different? I think we hope that maybe this time things will get better, but we’ve been hoping that for 20+ years
In Indiana, Rep. Jim Lucas filed an amendment this week to expand an existing bill aimed at letting Hoosiers take guns into schools and churches. Citing Parkland, Lucas says the bill now needs to be broadened to guarantee a right to carry on all state-owned property. “We just need to eliminate gun-free zones,” Lucas said according to the Indianapolis Star.
So, does “all state-owned property” include state capitols? Offices of state representatives? These idiots disgust me
How many more martyrs will be made because REPUBLICANS CAN’T WIN ELECTIONS WITHOUT NRA BLOOD MONEY?
And now it seems at least some of it came from Russia.
They don’t deny it, either.
And through thier eyes, let the future generations know the truth. They may not win any legislative battles right up front, but eventually their fresh perspective on the abiding outrageousness might keep that truth in the spotlight instead of disappearing from the public’s scrutiny like it always seems to.
Can we stop saying “gun rights supporters”?
How about “pro-gun activists” or simply “NRA-funded legislators”.
Call them by their name “Ammosexuals”
It’s depressing what a gun-nutty violent nation we are.
I have no need for a loaded handgun, especially at church, or a church parking lot. “Stand Your Ground” laws are just scams to legalize homicide when these hair-trigger regressives decide a black person is bothering them by being black. Hasn’t that always been the idea behind them?
I hate to say it but the reaction of Republicans has been the best Democratic recruiting tool every created.
These kids who have never been involved in politics are now in the thick of it and quickly see through the bullshit shoveled by Republicans
They quickly determined who is on their side
I’m sure Jim Lucas can’t wait until a bunch of people with guns look down on him from the legislative gallery of the Indiana state house.
This is getting into self defeat mode. If you look at the history of NRA sponsored legislation its pretty clear they’re running out of sane options and getting in to the insane stuff.
I think what’s different this time is the victims have organized to speak for themselves and demand change. And these aren’t just any victims—they’re affluent, part of the upper middle class, and they’re speaking for a large, powerful constituency that has for the most part left gun ownership behind. Some might shoot for whatever reason, but it’s not a big cultural influence and touchstone for them. If they see their own kids in the Parkland victims and start organizing, they’re going to be a problem for the NRA.
It’s all about the gun manufacturers. Especially those churning out AR-10 and AR-15 knock offs.
Oh, yes, and the Russians of course. Can’t forget about them. They’re really big on our Second Amendment.
GOP: We have always supported the right of blind, mentally disturbed and terrorists to own guns.

…
How about the "gun free zone at your state Capitol building, Jim? Or is that a special case? You gonna let the people you represent in your office with loaded guns???
I remember the insult Arizona dealt Gabby Giffords by declaring the Colt .45 “Peace Maker” the state pistol two weeks after Jared Loughner shot her in the head in a Safeway parking lot.
That is the GOP.
edit to add:
Not long after Gabby was wounded The Arizona “Legislature” (I use the term loosely) decided it made extra good sense to let residents of my state carry their weapons into bars and any other place alcohol is served. Makes sense, right? What could possibly go wrong? The crew up in Phoenix at the Capitol are also talking about professors and students being allowed to carry guns into classrooms at our 3 state universities. I am damned glad I am retired from the U of A and don’t have to teach anymore. The Leg hasn’t passed that latest stupid idea yet but they could.
