I wasn’t sure before, but after reading this article, now I know that DeSantis is a Republican. He holds beliefs the define the republican party.
My Mom was Italian born and raised who married my Dad at the end of his service in Italy in WW2. I grew up with the narrative of anti-Italian and anti-Catholic discrimination they encountered living in Boston and in Army bases mostly in the South. During college on the US mainland, in the 70’s, I was surprised to encounter Italian racists in the Mayors of Philadelphia (Rizzo) and Newark (Imperiale) and their constituents. When I moved to NYC in the late 70s you could experience them up close and personal in The West Village, Little Italy and the Boro enclaves. It still galls me to encounter it. And Mayor Ed Koch, elected in 1977, was responsible in my opinion for mobilizing a lot of racists of various white ethnicities, to whom he constantly pandered.
I remember Boston in the 1970s and the extreme racism of the anti-bussing movement. It was really ugly.

Our institutionalized two-party system is wonderful. One party is full-blown racist and the other isn’t. That’s your choice.
