He is following the process.

  1. Make offensive racist statement to let the deps. know you are one of them.
  2. Say you were joking, or that it wasn’t racist, to keep surburban racist careerists in the tent.

Sorry, Rep. DeSantis: “Monkey this up” is not a thing. It has never been a thing.
The only reason you would ever say “Monkey this up” is if your sweaty little brain is screaming “Say ‘monkey!’ Say ‘monkey!’ SAY ‘MONKEY!’ AAAUGHH!”

I grew up in the deep south and I have never once heard the phrase “Monkey this up.” The expression is “don’t muck this up.” DeSantis must have be special kind of racist to muck up the expression like this. He even hesitated while saying it so seems to me he consciously chucked it out there. Either that or he was thinking “must not say ‘monkey’” so intently that it spilled out into the open anyhow.

Either way, he’s a racist blowhard and it shows.

Great to know we’re getting back to the good ol’ days of 1850. At least we now have a clearer idea of when America was so “great.”

He can claim that he did not mean anything by saying “monkey it up” but he can not deny that he “f***ed it up.”

We should all be happy and relieved DeSantis didn’t make any remarks about Gillum being thrifty or stingy about spending on his campaign.

Heard the segment where he made this comment on Decomcracy Now this morning. That was a planned and rehearsed line.

That relationship with a xenophobic bigot is not an outlier, by any stretch. Only a few weeks after the 2017 election, Ron DeSantis appeared at David Horowitz’s “Restoration Weekend”, a rather polite name for an event that is perhaps better classified as an Islamophobic hate rally, which that particular weekend, featured White Nationalist speakers like Steve Bannon, actual Neo-Nazi Sebastian Gorka, and Milo Yiannopoulos, who had already been revealed to have spoken several times in favor of pedophilia, as if his racist agenda wasn’t enough of a reason to be disgusted by him. And yet, there was DeSantis on stage, speaking alongside both Yiannopoulos and Bannon, without any shame whatsoever. (We haven’t forgotten, Ron.)

So it would be fine if someone suggested that DeSantis should have the sense to practice some omerta?

Florida Republican gubernatorial nominee Ron DeSantis said again that his “monkey this up” comment had nothing to do with race.

“It has to do with evolution.”

As a 55 yr old native Floridian thus is the first and only time I have heard the phrase ‘monkey this up’. I have heard 'porch monkey and crack monkey, both of which are racists terms as well as people referring to African-Americans as monkeys. So exactly how Ron, is this not racist.

Thread by @RespectableLaw: "I want to talk about the phrase “monkey it up,” because as someone who managed a car repair shop in Texas, I know what that phrase means…

Didn’t he also say that Gillum performed well and was articulate? Ask a black person how they take that kind of “praise.”

Fair enough. And McGahn’s comment that Trump was “dumb as a post” had nothing to do with his intelligence.

See I figured it was a phrase specific to a job and region.
I’ve heard “don’t screw this up”. “don’t throw a monkey wrench into the works,” and the classic don’t fuck this up.
