Discussion: Des Moines Register Editorial Urges Steve King To Resign 'For Good Of Iowa'

I’m married to an Iowan, and both of us couldn’t agree more.

If there is a special election, here’s a good guy to support.

Reminds me of the Fresno Bee hammering Devin …

The problem with all the “Steve King is a terrible racist” frenzy is that this is not news.. Anyone paying the slightest attention has known for years that Steve King is a terrible racist. His constituents have known for years that he’s a terrible racist, and yet they keep electing him. They did so two months ago.

The problem isn’t limited to Steve King and the Republican party’s racism problem won’t be cured by getting rid of him.

Not sure of the IA law if King resigns but if up to the Gov Reynolds, she is very sleazy.

True, they’d need to get rid of many more including most of their base. I do appreciate that they’ve finally decided to do something about this particularly odious bastard though. Their racism problem can’t be solved nor can it be cured. It’s too deeply ingrained in Republicanism. Without it they’d have nothing with which to attract the rubes.

No, nothing is cured, but it’s like cutting out a small part of a diseased organ and the health of the body will eventually will be restored.

“Steve King is a racist” is not a problem for his Iowa district. “Steve King has no committee assignments and won’t for the foreseeable future” is definitely a problem. They just lost much of the value of being represented by him. A new person could begin accumulating seniority again and be more useful to the district.

Effectively he is gone. But he can sit on his duff the next two years and be paid 174,000 for doing nothing. Why would he leave? Apparently his constituents won’t mind.

Not so much a laughing stock as an object of scorn and disapproval for having tolerated King and voting for him as long as Iowans did!

Yet the Iowa that repeatedly elected this guy has first-in-nation primary status.

Being White Supremacists , why should Steve resign if Dumpy won`t ? ( Not forgetting , Dumpy IS the White Supremacists Dear Leader ) .

While, as others have pointed out above, it won’t change many things, one good thing is that more racist, bigotted Repugs will think twice about making comments like this. If nothing else, they will realize that many do NOT consider this acceptable and that there are repercussions to being hateful.

Let the voters of the IA 4th district decide, racist morons are also entitled to representation.

Governors may appoint senators in cases of resignation or death, but special elections are required for open House seats.

They never had any value from being represented by him. Steve King has never done anything of value for them. He’s a bench-warming loyal stooge that voted as the party told him to; the only thing he added to that was his loud and open racism. Outside of being a neo-Nazi in all but name, he’s an empty suit. And the people there elected him again and again, partly by scaring off anyone who dared try to run against him with constant death threats.
