Discussion: Dennis Hastert Charges Shed New Light On Handling Of Ex-Rep's Sex Scandal

And then there is ex-Sen. Larry Craig. What party did he represent?

It’s called “separation of powers”, and a key power of the executive is the power of legal matters. This must, for our system to work, be kept separate from the legislative branch. I am willing to accept some malfeasance in the legislative branch to ensure that no political interference can occur. In countries without such separation of powers, the legal power of the executive is used for bad results on the legislative branch.

BankerPup, how about the electorate making personal integrity a key factor for our congress critters. Right now spouting all the right buzz words is all that counts. The press doesn’t do much vetting until you are running for Senate and above. It is amazing we get the good people we get. That many of our congress members are utterly corrupt is not surprising at all given the nature of political reporting in America.

He was never accused of underage or predatory behavior. It’s important to not become confused. So, please, pay attention.

Larry Craig wasn’t a pedophile, he was just icky. If we were less repressed sexually Larry Craig wouldn’t have been a problem.

Now I know why Republicans worry so much about gay men terrorizing young boys and trying to recruit them into the closeted homosexual team. They’re speaking from experience.

You seem to be blaming Democrats for not being hypocrites and liars, like the conservatives.

Perhaps you forgot about the Duggar’s. They have no problem rallying around child molesters.

You should have put the Duggars at the end of the list. Works better comedically.

Your Republican Party! Dedicated to the protection of pedophiles everywhere!!

Say, how are those Values Voters Summit registrations coming…?

With the polarization we have these days, integrity seems to often boil down to party affiliation. But yes, it’d be great for the public to be more involved. I doubt the media are going to step up, though.

edit…I had to upload my avatar again. Worked first time but odd so many of our regulars got wiped out during the revamp.

Just saw where Hastert is now portraying himself as the “victim” in this FUBAR scandal. It’s so predictable: It’s always “I’m The Victim” time in the “Party of Personal Responsibility” and it’s always “Cocktober” in the “Party of Family Values.” What breathtaking hypocrisy and shameless self pity.

The commenting capability is a mess. I also got a suggestion to change my avatar, I ignored it. I hope I’m not reduced to an L

But as to Hastert, don’t be surprised to hear stories about Boy Scouts.

Mr. Hastert also worked with the Boy Scouts for 16 years, according to an address he gave in 2008 to a Boy Scouts group at Pikes Peak in Colorado.

“We did a lot of neat things,” he said to the group, including taking high-school-aged boys on trips to the Bahamas, the Grand Canyon and float trips on the Green River in Utah. “I saw those kids develop and meet challenges and change,” he said.

So you are cool with Foley’s malfeasance, then? And that Hastert lied about what he knew when to cover up his own malfeasance?

After the Repubs get slaughtered in the 2016 elections, it will be all about the need to shed the image of being the perverted, sexually repressed Party and rebranding by attempting to connect with actual adult women without repulsing them.
About 48 hours later we will hear about how the massive same sex orgy that occurred in the 2016 campaign clown car was just a one and done, an anomaly, Santorum was ‘hardly’ involved and the Boy Scout convention was merely coincidental.

Family values is a misnomer, The No Values Party is more like it.

Not so sure about that. If we had had openly gay marriage in those days, do you think Larry Craig would have settled down to a monogamous relationship? Not so sure; I think he enjoyed being icky.

“And then there is ex-Sen. Larry Craig. What party did he represent?”

Craig seemed all too typical of the legion of members of the GOP’s “Closeted Self-Hating Bigot” wing. Denny Hastert and Josh Duggar are more representative of the Republican Party’s Conservative NAMBLA chapter.

Not sure that would be a big improvement. Look how willing the authorities in Steubenville were to cover the asses of the local football heroes until they were called out nationally. Members of Congress certainly qualify as big fish and therefore assume a mantle of untouchability in the eyes of local law enforcement whose jobs are much more vulnerable that the guy elected to office.

They say that power can be a powerful aphrodisiac. It would appear that the GOP is a living example of that, because apparently once these people get into positions of power over children, they just can not keep their pants closed. Family Values? If this is what family values means to the GOP and their Tea Party/Evangelical pals, then give me divorced/never married but living together consenting adults any day of the week. I have seen better family values exhibited among LGBT couples than these straight, married men for years, so perhaps the GOP should stop trying to control a woman’s body and start trying to control their own!
