A guilty plea would seal the downfall of a man who rose from obscurity in rural Illinois to the nation's third-highest political office. Political analyst Dick Simpson says Hastert's lucrative lobbying career would also be ruined.
He’s more concerned about whether or not he’ll look good in orange —
Can we get him and his IL-GOP buddies on the “Prairie Parkway” land deal now?
Indeed…evidently Hastert has the money and influence to avoid the child molestation charges that Jerry Sandusky is serving the rest of his life in prison for committing. And he got some of it at least by that crooked land deal.
Hastert rules.
Going from third in line to the presidency, down to jailbird. Are there other examples of such a deep fall in american history?
Nixon
$3.5M is more than the average person makes in a lifetime, and he’s only getting 0 to 6 months in a country club ‘prison’? Corruption should warrant SEVERE sentences, not lenient.
Hearing over. Prosecutors asked for 0-6 months in prison. Sentencing sked for 2/29/16.
Hastert is one lucky SOB.
Well if we needed another example of how out of whack our justice system is we just go it. un-fucking-believable!
In a just world, he’d be sharing a cell with DeLay.
I wonder if he mysteriously dies before entering prison as did KenLay of EnRon fame?
When does “Individual A” make his first appearance on MSNBC?
It pays to be white
keep this one in mind the next time you read about someone going to jail for lying to the fbi … or sexually abusing a child.
see, kids, it’s good to be a former member of congress – with all of those nice, accommodating contacts you’ve made along the way… who will not only go lenient, but will hide away the evidence of your past crimes. i bet someone who’d dare to divulge that evidence would spend more time in jail than this pig.
Hastert is an appalling person and politician, but I would be unironically grateful if someone could explain to me why it is a crime to pay off a blackmailer or extortionist?
The judge asked Hastert, “Did you know that what you were doing was wrong?”
He responded, “Yes, sir.”
And they asked for 0-6 months. Old white Republican receiving preferential treatment
You pay them because you committed a crime.
Obviously, rich politicians get better legal outcomes for their crimes because they’re better people.
Actually, that’s not the crime he might get a slap on the wrist for. It’s for lying to the feds, which is a crime, even in Utah.
