That is it right there.
If it had of been “I had a drinking problem and I did some things I can’t remember or regret” , or was at least a little contrite we might have looked at him differently
Instead of " I was a choir boy who went to church on Sunday"
Lying is not the first quality we look for in a Supreme court Justice
Neither is arrogance as displayed with thinking you wouldn’t be found out
One hopes that the Dems who do questioning come off well. If presidental ambitions are really apparent and/or questions are obtuse, this will not go well. The Repubs may be very clever to insulate themselves by using a third party. Preening by Booker or others will give their critics ammunition.
In reading about Mitchell, she is very big on memory and how it can change and affect one’s perceptions of events and their timing. Ford should expect that and can defer even subtle assaults on her memory, at least in part, by bringing up how she has recounted the events to others and that there are other witnesses (Judge) who should be questioned under oath for further confirmation.
It sure isn’t. If you took away all the actual things he’s accused of, he’d still be a rabid partisan with serious character flaws and zero regard for the integrity of the judicial system. We’re not talking enough about that, in large part because of the assaults, and also because we’re not talking enough about that generally. I swear this society is more and more losing the ability to think in abstract terms about the ideals that inform its way of life or much of anything else.
and many many other things.
That was some big rug that took the sweepings
The Many Mysteries of Brett Kavanaugh’s Finances
Who made the down payment on his house? How did he come up with $92,000 in country club fees?
Exactly, personally I could care less about a nominees political party, instead I want someone who is balanced in their judicial temperament. We need someone who will actually listen to arguments, do the necessary research and make the call based on the rule of law. Politics should be the very very last thing that may be thought of when making a decision.
But lying, even about trivial things, is a characteristic of serious alcoholics. And even non-drinking presidents (Note, I didn’t say he was sober.)
Should be. But when you elect a Trump you give up even paying lip service to the idea of an independent judiciary. The GOP is brazenly politicizing it, and Trump is sociopathically incapable of understanding why you might not want to.
Didn’t Kavanaugh work in DC for many years ? If he had social problems there, they would be probably be known.
“That’s like asking me to explain the holy spirit."
I appreciate he has religious convictions and he has a right to them. He even has a right for them to play some degree of guidance in his decision making process as much as any person may rely on “gut”, “intuition”, or “instinct” or any other name we would like to give to intelligent sources we do not understand and cannot describe but have steered us right in the past. But as a public servant could he at least pretend that weighing evidence and reason are a part of the process too? This really makes it sound like he is going to sacrifice a chicken and read the entrails.
And speaking as an expert…been there done that.
You are absolutely correct
That boy needs some kind of 12 step program or rehab
The court being polarized is a terribly bad thing. I want neither a dream liberal nor conservative justice on the court. Both are bad for the country. While the one might give many rulings I like, it will invite appointments in the opposite extreme and we get this mess. All justices should strive to be fair and centrist weighing the feelings and viewpoints of all Americans on matters of law as equally as possible. The justice system is designed to be the adult in the room when we cannot get along. It does not need to be on anyone’s side. It just needs to find a fair compromise that considers everyone’s rights to the maximum degree possible.
I don’t know. Sounds like there is something there but at the end it seems to fizzle with mommy and daddy just throw a lot of money his way. I agree it should be answered better but if that is really all it is, it makes him look silly but not really compromised. If he had been getting gobs of money from Trump or the GOP or some corporate entity or the NRA or the Russians through the NRA that would be some something. But rich parents pampering their little 53 year old son is exactly what I suspect in this case.
There was an incident in 1998 when he was working with Starr. Reportedly he was drinking with some people in a restaurant, and when they came out he violently pushed a woman against a wall and ground himself against her. He was 33 then. Not a boyish misadventure or anything.
I’m guessing he will have very rehearsed and repetitive lines like his fox interview where he doesn’t answer some question and instead repeats his rehearsed lines. To be such a high level legal person that Fox interview made him seem like a moronic zombie.
I’m waiting for someone to ask today,“Have you ever been treated for alcohol in a rehab facility or private therapy?”
Yes, I expect that’s how he’ll handle himself.
That sort of behavior alone ought to be a red card…
Honestly, Dr. Ford probably has more knowledge and credibility in the area of memory and recall because of her professional background. She could be her own expert witness in that area.
That sort of behavior alone ought to be a red card…
Yeah really he and his wife very zombie like and the red fald lights and horns when off when he was asked 3 times why he thought this woman was accusing him and every time would only say was “I just want a fair process to clear my name and reputation”. Fucking wow!
He seemed a lot more relaxed and truthful in interview with Colbert.
Other Republicans also stressed that they are coming into the hearing with open minds.
In Kennedy’s case, it’s so open it’s practically blank.
