Unwelcome (but damn accurate Mitch said sotto voce)
âRep. Kingâs statements are unwelcome and unworthy of his elected position. If he doesnât understand why âwhite supremacyâ is offensive, he should find another line of work.â
Clyburn, on the other hand, said he was hesitant to censure King.
âI donât think we in the House should be censuring somebody for what he said to a reporter,â he said Monday, as quoted by Politico. âIf it was something he said on the House floor, yeah maybe.â
Not understanding this position at all.
âI donât think we in the House should be censuring somebody for what he said to a reporter,â he said Monday, as quoted by Politico. âIf it was something he said on the House floor, yeah maybe.â
I can only guessâŚmaybe he doesnât want King to become the victim in this, a martyr to the base? And a âcensureâ really doesnât mean anything, but allows Republicans to pretend they actually did something? Perhaps Clyburn feels it sends a more powerful message about racism in America by letting it stand on its own? Again, just guesses on my part.
I sure hope not.
I mean without an official censure. Certainly Reps will speak out against it as individuals.
Dems do something. Repugs fingers stuck up their _________.
I never quite understood the difference. Why exactly are racist sentiments to be tolerated when said on the public square, but not on the House floor? Thereâs less âfree speechâ on the House floor than the rest of America?
I think the argument would be that censure should be reserved for conduct when the Representative is discharging the powers of his office. I would counter that in the modern era, a Representative is on the job from the moment of his election until he leaves office, regardless of whether heâs on the House floor.
Understood. I believe the trigger for censure is something that brings shame onto the whole body, I think itâs written that way. This qualifies. Who he said it to is not relevant, since itâs public.
âWe want him to be a genteel racist.â
Clyburn has to explain this, but my thought is that itâs a versus thing.
Itâs different when itâs King and a stenographer (until further notice) versus King saying all of this on the House floor.
Now Clyburnâs position is naive (for obvious reasons), but I get it.
Kings racism is âunwelcomeâ because it has become too out in the open. The Grand OLD Party prefers its racism to be cloaked with enough deniability that they can claim that they are being attacked for Political correctness.
McConnell prefers his racism to be the type that the KKK and American Natziâs can root for, but Sean Hannity can claim criticism of is âliberal political correctnessâ
Where did Bill Clinton get that blowjob again?
âFranceâ
that line is done and gone, its now âlock her up! Lock her up! e-mails! e-mails!â
Iâll defer to Rube Goldberg: âNo matter how thin you slice it, itâs still baloney.â
GOoPs will Ilightly reprimand King and, if he is to be replaced, do it via the Republican primary when he refuses to step aside. Dems need to let McCarthy and Co. own the narrative for nowâit wonât go well for them. Iowa Dems have the energy to defeat whomever is the 2020 GOP candidate after their terrific job of flipping two of three Trump districts in 2018. National Dems shouldnât mess up this opportunity by trying to nationalize what will be a potent local issue.
