Dems To Grassley: âUnprecedented Abuse Of Powerâ To Move Forward With Kavanaugh"
Unprecedented? Eh, no.
Merrick Garland.
Unprecedented? Bullshit, its just another item on a very long list of Republicans abusing power. I wish Democrats would wake up to who theyâre dealing with. By Any Means Necessary, thatâs the Republican motto.
This will be categoricallyâŚignored.
Grassley: Whatâs the point of having power unless you can abuse it? We have worked damn hard to twist the Constitution to a point where we can enjoy our suzeraintyâŚ
Of course itâs not, but lets remember where the focus is right now.
In eleven words, youâve stated the entire Republican philosophy perfectly.
Sen. Grassley - the cost to go forward now, far outweighs the cost of canceling the hearings (all together). Take a hit in November (you are already set for a shellacking) due to an angry base, or take a hit for a generation of women of all ages - joined by many men. You didnât individually choose the rape-y president who lies a lot, but now there is a choice about how to procede (and whether to rush forward) with a rape-y supreme court justice who lies a lot.
Oh, well, if itâs unprecedented, they totally wonât do it.
Weâre safe, everyone! All that powder weâve kept dry means that the GOTPers wonât possible do something UNPRECEDENTED.
Grassley to Dems: âOh, go on! Youâre too kind. Do you really think so?â
(âSo they call me Concentration Camp Ehrhardt, eh?â)
Only the best words⌠And there is more to come at 5:00 PM EDTâŚ
If Flake moves to D stand and voters no can McConnel still bring to the full senate?
We need at least 2 GOP Senators to say no, and yet.there are some red state Dems who havenât said how they will vote.
As long as the Turttle thinks he can win he will bring it to a vote
All Flake has to do is abstain at the Committee levelâŚ
At least as far as my understanding goesâŚ
Robert Bork lost in committee 9 - 5. and Thomas had a 7 - 7 vote. It apparently depends more on obstinacy and hubris than simple democracy.
Actually, they care less about losing the Senate than they do about installing a far right block on the SC. They wonât lose enough of the Senate to allow impeachment and dismissal (there will not be 67 Democrats in the Senate for a long time, if ever), so if Kavanaugh makes it heâs there for life. They are depending on that to block all of the things that a society moving towards more equality will do, so that their evangelical beliefs can be pushed on us instead. Turning the clock back to the 1950s, when white men ruled the nation and everyone else was powerless, is their goal, and the Senate is a small price to pay to achieve that, especially since they expect their SC judges to overturn any liberal ideals that they can, regardless of precedent.
Thatâs the game here, thatâs why they keep pushing so hard to install Kavanaugh, and they are going to succeed at it regardless of what happens next. This act makes it more likely weâre looking at a major upset in our society soon, young people wonât stand for a SC that puts gays back in the closet or allows racism to thrive. Itâs going to make the SC meaningless, as eventually a president and Congress will come along that ignores a law that gets overturned, and when that happens things will go off the rails pretty quickly.
A âvote to approveâ is not necessary to bring the nomination to the Senate floor for a vote by the entire body.
Thatâs what Bitch McConnell was threatening to do with his little tantrum the other day: he wants to dare any of his own senators to formally register a âNOâ vote on this nomination and, theoretically, jeopardize their future career in the party.
All that you say is spot-on.
You might, however, allow for the possibility that the Dâs take the WH next time and âUncle Clarenceâ might have the decency to drop dead at that point, which would tip the balance back toward the center-left.
I expect Thomas to retire in 2019 to allow a younger racist, misogynist, evangelical, right wing nut job to take his seat.
Solid thinking there.
All the more reason for all of US to help Dâs re-take the senate in Nov.
(sorry 4 the delayed response)
