Discussion for article #242123
Ugh. Democratic presence matters not to the professional hitmen on the Right. They will continue to lie and distort until the panel is shut down completely. The Dems should have walked as soon as Hillary’s testimony was over and never looked back.
While I understand the temptation to boycott, it’s wiser not to. The committee operates by taking testimony in secret and then leaking distorted versions… only Dems on the committee can fight back against that, as they have already done effectively.
In short, don’t let the GOP conspirators have an unchecked voice.
After yesterday, no one could possibly think the Dems are conceding any legitimacy to the committee by staying. They are explicitly remaining to thwart GOP plots… as they should.
I agree with Schiff.
“After yesterday’s 11-hour hearing, there can be no remaining doubt that the Benghazi Select Committee is a taxpayer-funded fishing expedition to derail Secretary Clinton’s presidential campaign," . . . FULL STOP.
So quit. Stop wasting your time as you have the “People’s work” to do. It’s not like your presence is going to change anything or put the thing to rest.
The Democrats need to stay, and use every opportunity they can seize to further expose this sham “investigation” for what it is. For starters, in public session, whenever a Democrat is recognized, they should begin their comments citing the cumulative cost of the committee’s efforts and the results achieved (zero).
The complete illegitimacy of this “Select” committee needs to be kept before the public at every turn, and only the Democrats can do that…
This is the right call. Fight darkness with the light.
Wonder what Speaker Boehner / Ryan will do once Hillary’s numbers start climbing?
Claim it’s just a little No Joe-mentum?
Spot on, and I’d add that isn’t a good idea to leave it up to the American public to understand nuance. Democrats need to stay on the committee and keep exposing Republicans’ lies until the Republicans finally give up and disband the committee. There’s absolutely nothing to be gained from walking away.
I disagree. They quite obviously showed their worth being on the panel, yesterday. And they need to stay there and keep ferreting out every one of Gowdy’s selective leaks to keep things in context.
They have done a tremendous job of blunting his fangs, and need to keep doing it till the GOP wises up and shuts this thing down.
You have to be there to be able to point and laugh.
Absolutely disagree. Time and time and time again, we’ve seen that their M.O. is to leak sections of “secret” transcripts or documents out of context or even just flat out make shit up about what they say and pass them on to their credulous press corpse pals who transcribe without hesitation. And time and again, we’ve seen them get their nuts toasted for doing that only because Democrats had access to those documents by virtue of being on the committee.
It is critical that they stay on. I don’t think there’s the slightest question of Democrats’ presence lending legitimacy to the proceedings after yesterday’s fiasco.
“… press corpse” (Titters)
Toadily disagree. Not just HRC but every single Dem critter on the Special Committee kicked major R butt yesterday, helping to turn a kangaroo court into a pro-HRC and pro-Dem election rally. If the House Dem caucus were to pull out now, that’d just allow Trey-Trey and his Specials an unencumbered run at trying to rehabilitate their disaster. Instead, with Pelosi making it clear the House Dem caucus is fully behind this fab 5 in how they’re doing their jobs here, that means Trey-Trey, his Specials and the House GOP caucus all have a negative incentives working against calling any more live hearings and maybe even much in the way of strategery-animatedl leakage. The Special Committee is in triage right now, struggling & wheezing like someone who’s unlikely to make it. It’d be professional incompetence for the Dems to let up on the pressure right now.
Happy trolls R U
Until we meet again
Happy trolls R U
Keep trolling until then …
Hey they can’t get anything done in congress with the republicans hold things up so they might was well do nothing in this panel.
the more Elijah Cummings exposure the better.
The Dems must stay to help the Republicans continue to make fools of themselves.
They don’t need help making fools of themselves, but the Democrats being there to point and laugh certainly helps bring attention to it.
This makes no sense. Either it’s a waste of time and money, and you cut your losses now, or not. Staying behind at this point shows you actually believe it’s a serious endeavor, your public comments notwithstanding. NOW IS THE TIME FOR BOLD ACTION! QUIT, AND QUIT LOUD AND LONG!
